The Female (1924) -- Lost Silent ?
3 July 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

This 1924 romance/drama was based on the novel Dalla, the Lion Cub by Cynthia Stockley. The film was produced by Famous Players-Lasky Corporation and released by Paramount Pictures. It boasted several of silent screens most popular stars, Warner Baxter , Betty Compson and Noah Beery. Sadly it now remains listed as unknown and hopefully a copy does survive and resurfaces. For now, all I can offer the reader is this brief synopsis.

Although she is attracted to Colonel Valentia ( Warner Baxter ), a hunter, Dalla ( Betty Compson ), an impetuous South African orphan, accepts the offer of her benefactor, Barend De Beer ( Noah Beery ), to marry him after she visits England. The visit transforms her into a polished lady. While on a lion hunt Beer is killed by Clon Biron ( Freeman Wood ), a jealous rival. Dalla is accused, but the truth is established and she is free to live a happy life with Valentia.
