The Girl I Loved (1923) --- Lost Silent ?
5 July 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

This 1923 silent rural drama was based on the novel, " The Girl I Loved," by James Whitcomb Riley. The film version was produced by Charles Ray Productions and distributed by United Artists. Starring popular actor Charles Ray, sadly the status of this film is listed as unknown. All I can offer the reader is this brief synopsis, hopefully a copy survives and resurfaces for public viewing.

An only child, John Middleton ( Charles Ray ) at first resents Mary ( Patsy Ruth Miller ), an orphan adopted by his mother, then gradually becomes resigned, feels brotherly affection, and finally falls in love with her. But before John can bring himself to propose to Mary, she announces her engagement to Willy Brown ( Ramsey Wallace ). With difficulty John reconciles himself to his loss, keeps it to himself, and gives the bride away to Willy.
