Murnau's Thirteenth film is among the lost: synopsis follows.
13 September 2001 | by (Putney, VT) – See all my reviews

This is another of Murnau's peasant films - here the conflict is between those loyal to the land and those needing to abandon it.

Steyer is an old man who lives on an isolated farm with his widowed son and that man's daughter. When the son remarries, he chooses Ludmilla, who marries him only to escape poverty, while cheating on him with Lauer, the hunter. Ludmilla influences Steyer to sell the farm to move to the village for her sake as well as his granddaughter's. Ludmilla merely wants to be nearer to her lover. Steyer suddenly repents of his action and attempts to cancel the sale. Steyer discovers his daughter-in-law's infidelity during a snowstorm. Disillusioned, he allows the sale to go forward.

This is a LOST film - no negative or positive materials are known to exist.

Above gleaned from Lotte Eisner's biography of Murnau.
