Unsatisfied with her family's modest means, embarrassed by her headstrong brother, and nagged by her mother, Alice Adams ( Florence Vidor ) builds romantic dreams and tries to give the impression of wealth to her friends, especially Arthur Russell ( Vernon Steele ). During a dinner in the Adams home Arthur discovers Alice's pretense, and she finally realizes she is fooling only herself. Alice decides to go to work to help her father, whose business has failed.
This 1923 silent drama was based on the popular the novel Alice Adams by Booth Tarkington and produced by Encore Pictures, starring Florence Vidor. Tragically the 1923 silent adaptation of Alice Adams is now a lost film.
