The Camera as Paintbrush
22 December 2003 | by (London, England) – See all my reviews

Bearing in mind that the 23 year old Alfred Hitchcock began his career in silent films like this one, he learnt the principle of visually telling a story rather than relying on dialogue as in the theatre. He learned how to separate the narrative of a novel from the visual painting of a picture through the camera in a film.
