The Man from Hell's River ( 1922 ) - Lost Silent ?
13 August 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Mabella ( Eva Novak ), a girl living at a Canadian fur-trading post, though engaged to Pierre de Barre ( Irving Cummings ), a member of the Royal Mounted Police, is forced to marry Gaspard ( Wallace Beery ), a vicious halfbreed who has incriminating evidence about her father, Lopente ( Robert Klein ). Pierre is distressed, and Mabella, brutally mistreated and neglected by Gaspard, goes to the police station for protection. Gaspard, however, abducts her and forces her to go away with him on a dog sled. Pierre, discovering that Gaspard is wanted for a crime, pursues them with Rin-Tin-Tin, his dog, kills Gaspard, effecting the rescue of Mabella. Father La Croi ( William Herford ) reveals that Mabella, an orphan discovered during a snowstorm, is not of Indian parentage, and she is happily united with Pierre.

This 1922 silent drama was produced by Irving Cummings Productions, starring Irving Cummings, Eva Novak, Wallace Beery and Rin-Tin-Tin in his first film. Sadly, the survival status of The Man from Hell's River is listed as unknown, suggesting it may now be a lost silent.
