Brawn of the North (1922) -- Lost Drama
14 July 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

This 1922 silent drama was produced by Laurence Trimble & Jane Murfin Productions, starring actress Irene Rich and Strongheart, Rin Tin Tin's competition. Sadly this film now remains lost and all I can offer the reader is this brief synopsis.

Marion Wells ( Irene Rich ) and the dog Brawn ( Strongheart ) go to Alaska to join her brother, Lester ( Roger James Manning ), and Howard Burton ( Joseph Barrell ), her fiancé. The men quarrel, Burton kills Lester, and Brawn drags Marion through a storm to Peter Coe's ( Lee Shumway ) cabin. Peter forces marriage on her, but she leaves him and sells Brawn to support herself. When Peter finds the dog mistreated by his new owner, he rescues Brawn and returns him to Marion, who now realizes that she loves Peter. Sometime later, while making a trip into town with their baby ( Evangeline Bryant ), Marion and Peter leave their sled to search for Brawn, who has succumbed to the charms of Lady Silver ( The Vamp, a dog ) and followed her. They return to find their baby gone, but later they discover that Brawn came back to save the baby from a pack of wolves and carried her to a missionary's cabin.
