Tom Harper ( Frank Mayo ), a former A. E. F. boxing champion who suffered gas poisoning, is sent to the mountains to regain his health so that he can re-enter the ring and earn the money needed for his crippled sister Sally's ( Peggy Cartwright ) operation. Under strict orders not to exert himself, Tom allows himself to be beaten up by Phillip Brand ( Wade Boteler ), the town bully, in front of his girl, Harriet Monroe ( Lillian Rich ). Winning the championship from Slick Morrisey ( Al Kaufman ), he returns to take care of the bully and reclaim the girl.
This 1922 silent melodrama was produced by The Universal Film Manufacturing Company, starring Frank Mayo, Lillian Rich and Peggy Cartwright. The survival status of Afraid to Fight is listed as unknown, sadly suggesting it is now a lost film.
