What New Characters Will Be Introduced In "Game Of Thrones" Season 3? Any Of Them Roles For Black Actors?

6 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Season 2 isn't quite over yet, but fans (as well as the network - HBO) are already looking to season 3 of the hit series Game Of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s third Song of Ice and Fire novel, A Storm of Swords. One big question on the minds of many, and for producers of the series to ponder is what season 3's cast list will look like; specifically, what new characters can audiences expect to be introduced next year, especially since the lengthy book is being divided into two seasons. EW.com recently spoke to showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss about next season’s plans, and they revealed what new characters will be introduced in season 3: – Mance Rayder: A former member of the Night’s Watch who became the “King Beyond the Wall,” the leader of the Wildlings. – Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior. – Jojen Reed »

Game of Thrones Season 3 Scoop: New Characters Revealed!

6 hours ago | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Days away from the Game of Thrones Season 2 finale, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have come out and already dropped a few hints regarding 2013 and the third season of this HBO epic.

Specifically, the pair has announced just which characters will be present next year, largely in response to complaints from fans of George R.R. Martin that many have been missing from action so far.

"If you hurl 300 characters at an audience, the story collapses under the weight of too many faces, too many names, and too many subplots," Benioff tells EW. "We need to be just as mindful of the audience members who have never read the books as we are of the readers; the series will fail if we only appeal to those who already know the characters. So we try to be parsimonious about how many new roles we introduce to the story and when we introduce them. »

Game Of Thrones Recap: Two Princes

21 May 2012 11:01 AM, PDT | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

It’s Game Of Thrones Season 2, Episode 8 entitled “The Prince Of Winterfell,” a reference to the possibly-burnt ‘Prince’ Bran (aka “The Even Younger Wolf”) and his brother Rickon (aka “The Wolf Who’s Constantly Eating Wolfnuts”), who’ve yielded Winterfell to its current ‘Prince’ Theon (aka “Dick Wolf”). Theon’s sister Yara arrives in Winterfell to ridicule Theon and confidently sit in chairs: Yara tries to convince Theon to leave Winterfell before Northern forces instantly slaughter him, but when Theon stubbornly refuses, Yara tells him the touching story, “When you were a baby, you used to scream all the time. Also, you couldn’t walk, speak, or understand things, and now, you’re four times larger and can speak and walk upright and are an adult. My point is, if you’re gonna get obviously killed because you have no idea what you’re doing, at least do it closer »

Game of Thrones Season Two - Episode 7 Review

Oliver Davis reviews the seventh episode of Game of Thrones Season Two...

A Man Without Honor.

Directed by David Nutter.

Written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Although not as good as last week's episode, A Man Without Honor Honour is amongst the best of the series thus far. Nearly every other scene excels in duologue - Jaime/his ex-squire, Arya/Tywin, Cersei/Tyrion and Jon/Ygritte. It also contains a few major plot points, revealing where Daenerys' dragons got to, what becomes of Bran and Rickon after their escape from Winterfell, and a tense showdown between Catelyn and Jaime.

This is all managed without three of the show's best characters - Stannis, Davos and Joffrey - and Tyrion, the show's top bill, barely features at all. Once you've recovered from the final scene, you'll find yourself admiring the depth of the supporting cast.

TV Reviews: “Game of Thrones” Season 2, Episode 7, “A Man Without Honor”

Game  of Thrones

“A Man Without Honor” Air Date: 5/13/2012

Last night’s episode, “A Man Without Honor,” could refer to any number of characters. Hell, practically every character not named Stark, as it becomes more and more evident how awful Westeros and the realm beyond it really is. And we haven’t even met the Bastard of Dreadfort yet. Thankfully, the title refers to Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who has unfortunately taken a backseat and really been a forgotten man up to this point in season 2, but that all changes with this episode, and perhaps it’s not a coincidence that this was the best all-around episode of the year thus far.

Theon wakes up to discover that Osha, Bran, Rickon and Hodor have escaped, in no small part due to his copulation with the wildling the previous night. He takes out his frustration on one of his men, and thus continues the Sad, »

TV Recap: “Game of Thrones” Season 2, Episode 5, “The Ghost of Harrenhal”

Game of Thrones

“The Ghost of Harrenhal” Air Date: 4/29/2012

After watching Melisandre give birth to an evil shadow at the end of last week’s episode (is it wrong that I was almost aroused?), let’s just skip to the good stuff today. Catelyn Stark and King (collect all six) Renly come to terms on a preliminary alliance between the two sides. Stark and Baratheon have had a long standing relationship in the past, and Robb has no desire for the iron throne. Renly agrees to cede the northern lands to Robb if the Young Wolf swears an oath of fealty, an agreement Catelyn believes his son would make. Just when we think something good might happen for once in this God forsaken world, the dark shadow materializes in the tent and kills Renly, before Catelyn or Lady Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) can do or comprehend anything. Brienne goes mad, grabbing »

Game Of Thrones Recap: The Kids In The Harrenhal

30 April 2012 12:10 PM, PDT | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

It’s Game Of Thrones Season 2, episode 5 entitled “The Ghost of Harrenhal”. Will this version of “Ghost” involve two lovers spinning pottery together then a rat tunneling through the pot and into the couples’ stomachs? You’ll have to read on to find out. Nahh, I can tell you now: It literally does! We pick up right where the last episode left off, with the show’s magical element jumping from “omens, prophetic dreams and unlikely powers” to “witch lady giving birth to magical shadowy deathmonster”. Needless to say, Stannis’ closest companion Davos is still shaken up by the unusual birth he witnessed, and confesses his doubts about Melisandre’s intentions to his lord: Regardless of Davos’ irrational concerns about a woman capable of giving instant birth to a smoke-assassin, it’s hard to argue with the creature’s effectiveness; while Renly is in his tent calmly rejecting Catelyn Stark »

Game of Thrones Season Two - Episode 3 Review

Oliver Davis reviews the third episode of Game of Thrones Season Two...

What is Dead May Never Die.

Directed by Alik Sakharov.

Written by Bryan Cogman.

There’s yet another Meccano playset on the Westeros map that backdrops the opening credits. It’s called Pyke, which is one of the Iron Islands, a place of salt and steel and sea. Its inclusion hints at its importance, as its ruler, Balon Greyjoy, proclaims himself yet another King. That’s seven now, if you’ve lost count (Joffrey, Robb, Stannis, Renly, Balon, the ‘King Beyond the Wall’ and Danerys).

The Night Remembers (episode two) ended with Jon following a man into the woods surrounding Craster’s keep. The man had a wailing infant with him, and gave it to a large figure darkened by the night. “Is that an Other?” Jon barely had time to think before being knocked unconscious by the butt of Craster’s axe. »

'Game Of Thrones' Star Talks Season 2, Sex Scenes & Killing Joffrey

When we last saw Robb Stark (Richard Madden), he was leading the North to war against King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) to avenge his father's death, and after a string of victories that stretched south into the Riverlands, it looks as if the King in the North is on an unstoppable streak. However, as the late Ned Stark's eldest son will learn, this game of thrones is not all about winning the battles.

In Season 2 of HBO hit fantasy series "Game of Thrones" (Sundays at 9 p.m. Et), the newly-appointed King of the North will need to start using his head more than his sword. He's already sent his mother Lady Catelyn (Michelle Fairley) off to negotiate an alliance with King Renly (Gethin Anthony) in Highgarden, and he also has his captive, Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), at his -- and his direwolf Grey Wind's -- mercy.

Oliver Davis reviews the second episode of Game of Thrones Season Two...

"That's not the way to get a-head in life."

-Austin Powers

I’m unsure what it was about Episode 1, but it left me pretty underwhelmed. Here was I, expecting to be screwed over and played with by the giant, tormenting cat HBO embodies, yet, overall, we were mollycoddled. That first episode opened on Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) celebrating his birthday (in typical petulant fashion), for Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) to waddle in and make everything oh so light-hearted. As season opening’s go, it’s about as safe as cotton wool wrapped in bubble bath. Well, at HBO it is. Anything less than Adored Major Character Dying feels rather easy going.

The ‘HBO’ branding has become synonymous with risk. The Wire opened its second season with a completely new host of characters – a feat Game of Thrones could’ve easily »

Game of Thrones He kinda sucks. “The Night Lands” Air Date: 4/8/12

Arya Stark (still dressed as a boy and mostly pulling it off), Baratheon’s bastard Gendry (Joe Dempsie), and Dumb and Dumber themselves – Lommy Greenhands (Eros Vlahos) and Hot Pie (Ben Hawkey) – bicker on their way to the Night’s Watch. That is, until the Royal Guard arrive with a warrant out for someone among their group. Arya immediately thinks they’re after her, but they’re really after Gendry, but no one knows why (except us). Yoren (Francis Magee) threatens the lives of the guard, and sends them on their way, but it’s clear they will be back, with more men. And now Gendry has a target on his back amongst the group, and he’s Arya’s only friend. Uh oh.

Game of Thrones Preview: Catelyn Tries to End the Feud Between Stannis and Renly

In this week's Game of Thrones, Theon traveled back to his father's house to propose an alliance with Robb Stark.  But Theon wasn't welcomed back to the Greyjoy estate with open arms.  In fact, he learned that his father has a great deal of scorn for Theon's adoptive family (the Starks) and has no plans to ally himself with Robb.  Instead, he plans on retaking the land that used to belong to their family and has decided that Theon's sister will help him do so.

Beyond the Wall, Sam got the rangers in a spot of trouble when he wanted to help one of Crastor's daughters escape her terrible life.  Meanwhile, on the road, Joffrey's guards were searching for Gendry, the only one of King Robbert's bastards who hasn't yet been killed.  The group managed to scare the guards away, »

Game of Thrones, Season 2, Episode 1 If only he’d impale himself on that throne “The North Remembers” Air Date: 4/1/12

George R. R. Martin’s acclaimed fantasy series A Song Of Ice And Fire exploded onto HBO in 2011, in the form of the bloody, sexy, gritty Game Of Thrones. It was one of the year’s greatest hits, resulting in an Emmy and Golden Globe for star Peter Dinklage, and perhaps more importantly, respect to a genre (fantasy) long seen as niche, nerdy and not feasible for TV. Creators David Beinoff and D.B. Weiss (along with Martin) proved everyone wrong with their tremendous first season, and seek to go further in the second season. Winter has been coming for a long time, but the season 2 premiere is finally upon us, taking over the gaping void in our lives left by the exit of The Walking Dead. Let’s take a deep breath, »
