Murnau's Second film is among the LOST: Synopsis follows., 13 September 2001
Author:
Arne Andersen (aandersen@landmarkcollege.org) from Putney, VT
This is an adaptation of Stevenson's DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE. Dr. Warren,
a
rich London doctor, can change himself into the dreadful Mr. O'Connor. It
is supposed that as with NOSFERATU, Murnau did not bother to secure film
rights from the Stevenson estate and thus changed the names. Contemporary
reviews mainly praise Conrad Veidt's performance in the dual
lead.
This is among the LOST films - no negative or positive materials are known
to exist.
Above gleaned from Lotte Eisner's biography on Murnau.
