Double Speed (1920) - Lost Silent Film ?
3 January 2017 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Important note: This is not a film review. I hope to be able to find and add as many silent film synopsis of films that have a survival status of unknown or presumed lost. I try to do as much research as I can and it is not my intention to deceive anyone, for sometimes the film does exist and some presumed lost films are still being discovered. I am more than delighted if someone has knowledge of a film listed as lost but survives, as I wish all silent films did survive. I hope the reader enjoys this brief synopsis.

During Speed Carr's ( Wallace Reid ) auto trip from New York to Los Angeles, where he is to meet his uncle, the millionaire and banker John Ogden ( Theodore Roberts ), Speed is robbed of all his possessions and thus arrives in Los Angeles dressed like a hobo. At the bank, Speed discovers that his uncle is out of town, and because of his appearance and lack of identification, Speed is unceremoniously ejected. Destitute, Speed secures a job as chauffeur to Effie McPherson ( Wanda Hawley ), the bank president's daughter. Effie's father ( Tully Marshall ) is anxious to locate Speed before Ogden returns, and when his arrival becomes imminent, McPherson persuades his daughter's chauffeur to pose as Speed. When Effie falls in love with her chauffeur, McPherson objects, but relents when he discovers that his future son-in-law is in actuality a millionaire.

This silent 1920 romance/drama was based from a story by J. Stewart Woodhouse, starring Wallace Reid and Wanda Hawley. The survival status of Double Speed (1920) is listed in the American Silent Feature Film Database as; No holdings located in archives.
