The Pointing Finger (1919) - Lost Silent ?
24 August 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Mary Murphy ( Mary MacLaren ), the oldest waif in an orphanage, steals a dress and three dollars, then escapes to the city. Grosset ( Carl Stockdale ), the superintendent of the institution, steals $10,000 on the same night, and Mary is suspected of the theft. Mary manages to get a job as assistant to entomologist William Saxton ( Johnnie Cook ), after she disguises her appearance because the Professor dislikes pretty and fashionably dressed young ladies. Saxton's nephew David ( David Butler ) sees Mary's true beauty, however, and falls in love with her. Grosset arrives at the Professor's house and threatens to expose Mary. Mary discovers Grosset robbing the safe, but he places the blame on her. Saxton was actually hiding behind the curtain the whole time and heard the truth. Grosset is arrested, and Mary weds David.

This 1919 silent drama was based on the short story "No Experience Required" by Frank R. Adams. Produced by The Universal Film Manufacturing Company, with filming on locations at the Wrigley Mansion, Pasadena California, starring Mary MacLaren. The status of this film is listed as unknown, sadly suggesting it may now be a lost silent.
