Second to last Keaton-Arbuckle short mildly amusing

This is not one of the team's better efforts. It was Keaton's 13th and second to last film appearance with Arbuckle.

Set in a general store/post office it boasts a few innovative moments:

Fast motion accurate tossing of mail into mailboxes by Arbuckle; Reverse camera as Keaton returns buggy to stable; Arbuckle giving honorable burial to an empty bottle of whisky; Keaton with broom as general store traffic cop; The haystack hide and seek with Arbuckle and dog, Luke; Arbuckle getting his girls' ring size from a cheese impression; Arbuckle's abandonment by friends due to his scallion breath; Keaton's failed magic show.

The dance featured in THE BELL BOY repeats itself here.

Buster saves the day when his eavesdropping proves the constable's theft of insurance money and his attempt to blame it on Fatty.

KINO's VHS and DVD release of this film (Arbuckle and Keaton, Volume One) uses a good print. The ever bad Alloy Orchestra score however is not an asset.
