Storyline

The Hollisters, a bright, spirited, wholesome family, are compelled to move into the country. After many efforts to secure a home, Shirley, eldest of the Hollisters, contrives a way out by renting a magnificent old stone barn at a ridiculously low price, transforming it into a house. The owner of the barn is not an ordinary landlord, as you will see, for he is a young man with fine ideals, and he is not content with establishing Shirley and her family in the quaintly beautiful old place, but makes the world a much happier place to live in for all of them

The Enchanted Barn (1919) - Lost ?
8 August 2016 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

It is my ambition to add as many silent film synopsis of films that have a survival status of unknown or presumed lost. I try to do as much research as I can and it is not my intention to deceive anyone, for sometimes the film does exist. I am more than delighted if someone has knowledge of a film listed as lost but survives, as I wish all silent films did survive. I hope the reader enjoys this brief synopsis.

Shirley Hollister ( Bessie Love ), a young stenographer, finds a large unoccupied stone barn in the country which would make a perfect home for her sick mother and younger brothers and sisters who need fresh air. Sidney Graham ( J. Frank Glendon ), the rich young owner, takes an interest in Shirley, and fixes up the barn as a comfortable bungalow. Shirley falls in love with Sidney. Shirley discovers that Sidney and his father are about to be swindled in a mining stock proposition, and she uses her secretarial skills when evidence is taken to convict the swindlers. The two swindlers seek revenge on Shirley by kidnapping her, but she manages to notify Graham by dropping a note out of a car window. He calls the sheriff, who tracks down the swindlers, and Graham himself finds Shirley. Once reunited, it is revealed that Graham is in fact, engaged to another woman, but soon leaves his society fiancée for Shirley.

This 1919 silent drama was based from the novel The Enchanted Barn by Grace Livingston Hill Lutz, produced by The Vitagraph Company of America, starring the popular actress, Bessie Love. The survival status of The Enchanted Barn is listed in the American Silent Feature Film Database as; No holdings located in archives.
