The Love Cheat (1919) -- Lost Silent ?
22 July 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

As a fan of silent cinema, an entire different art form, with so many films lost, I have been trying to add as many film synopsis as I can find for other fans to enjoy. It can be a frustrating task, many are listed as unknown, suggesting they may be lost, and there is always the chance, a silent film could survive in another countries archive. Whatever the circumstance, many of us will never be able view many of the films if they do survive, for they just are not available for public viewing. This 1919 film starring actress June Caprice, I cannot find any information of it's survival status. I will offer this film synopsis, and hope the reader finds it helpful. If this film does survive, I only hope someone will give it a proper review.

A struggling Greenwich Village artist, Henry Calvin ( Creighton Hale ) dresses up to meet a prospective buyer in a fashionable hotel. Failing to meet him, Henry takes the wrong overcoat and finds in it an invitation to Louise Gordon's ( June Caprice ) coming out party. Hungry and curious, Henry attends and immediately falls in love with Louise. Realizing his poverty would prohibit a romance, Henry is about to leave when he meets a former classmate, William West ( Charles Coleman ), who, hoping to prosper by Henry's union with Louise, loans him money and introduces him as the manager of a large shipbuilding concern. At West's instigation, engagement plans proceed, until the night of the engagement announcement, when Henry, ashamed of his dishonesty, sends a letter saying he is an impostor. Later, Louise, now engaged to her father's choice, Herbert Rand ( Alfred Hickman ), accidentally finds Henry, now a clerk in an antique shop. Henry wins Louise when he says he loved her before he knew she was rich. Reluctantly, Louise's father consents to their marriage.
