After his defeat at the hands of "Spider" Flynn ( Francis McDonald ) ,
the welterweight champion of Europe, boxer Jimmie Dolan ( Jack Mulhall
) and his trainer, Thomas Jefferson Jones ( Noble Johnson ), leave for
a principality near Paris. Having lost all their money on the fight,
Jimmie accepts Count Conrad's ( Albert MacQuarrie )offer to impersonate
Prince Frederick ( Ernest Shields ) in return for a large sum of money.
By the terms of the contract, Jimmie is to embarrass Alicia ( Julia Ray
), the king's ward, so that she will consent to marry Conrad. Things
backfire, however, when Jimmie wins Alicia's love as well as the
admiration of the king. Even when the real prince appears and Jimmie
returns to his profession, the princess remains steadfast in her love
and journeys to Paris to see him win his rematch with Spider Flynn.
This 1917 comedy/drama was produced by the Universal Film Manufacturing Company and filmed in California. Sadly it is now listed as unknown, hopefully a copy survives and resurfaces for public viewing.
