The movie was banned in Pennsylvania on the grounds it would tend to corrupt morals, even after several edits were submitted to the state's censors. The National Board of Review passed the film for adults only. A district attorney in Brooklyn, New York sued to keep this film from being shown. Univeral won the case.
The character Mrs. William Carlo was originally called Mrs. William Brandt, but a New York socialite of the same name objected to its use so all references were changed shortly before the film's release.
