While camping in the woods, theology student Sheldon Avery ( Richard Sterling ) meets Natalie Raydon ( Blanche Sweet ), who has grown up ignorant of the world outside the forest. At first, they spend their time discussing religion, but then their relationship gets more physical than philosophical, after which Sheldon asks Natalie to marry him. She turns him down, however, because she does not love him, and then, a short time later, she falls in love with Sheldon's millionaire friend, Robert Fielding ( Thomas Meighan ). They ask Sheldon to officiate at their wedding, and during the ceremony, surrounded by her future husband and her former lover, Natalie breaks down and confesses to her brief affair with Sheldon. After a moment of indecision, Robert insists that the ceremony continue.
This 1916 silent drama was produced by the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company, starring Blanche Sweet and Thomas Meighan. Tragically, The Storm now remains a lost silent film.
