Prudence, the Pirate (1916) -- Status Unknown
23 May 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Prudence's ( Gladys Hulette ) social seeking Aunty ( Flora Finch ) tries to get her to marry the self-centered John Astorbilt ( Barnett Parker ), but the young girl refuses his proposal, preferring to have a hero type over a bon vivant. Meeks ( Riley Chamberlain ) the family butler used to tell Prudence tales of pirates that left quite a rebel influence on her, she soon rents an old ship complete with a motley crew of sailors, and makes plans to become a female Blackbeard. For her first act of piracy, she kidnaps her aunt and John and assigns them to hard labour on the ship. The hard labour makes a new man out of John, and when a fire breaks out on board, he rescues Prudence, who was trapped in a below deck cabin. Prudence is very impressed and proud of John's genuine heroism, she now happily trades in her career as a pirate and becomes Mrs. Astorbilt.

This comedy/drama was produced by the Thanhouser Film Corporation and starred the popular silent film actress Gladys Hulette. It was filmed on locations in New Rochelle, New York and Long Island Sound, and received glowing praise from 1916 film-goers. Sadly the status of this film is now listed as unknown.
