He Did and He Didn't (1916)
*** (out of 4)
Extremely black comedy about an overweight doctor (Fatty Arbuckle) who eats too much and then dreams that his wife is cheating on him. There were a few funny scenes but this is mainly interesting in the fact that it is very dark in how it tries to get laughs. Murder, abuse and other "dark" targets are here and all of them are played for laughs.
You can view this film in the Forgotten Films of Fatty Arbuckle set, which features four discs worth of shorts including some of Fatty's later day films that he directed. This set is certainly worth its price as it features new scores, new prints and some nice extras.
