Storyline

Wilton Demarest, a wealthy New York contractor and business man, falls victim to the wiles of Mazora, a beautiful adventuress. Soon, he becomes addicted to the use of drugs, neglects his wife and child, and his business is on the verge of ruin. He meets Martin Stanley, a western mining engineer, and his exact double. Demarest, half insane through the use of MaZora's drugs, conceives the fantastic idea of having Stanley, so like him in every good way, take his place in the world, and thus give him time to indulge in his degraded desires. Stanely revolts at the idea, but is penniless and a stranger in New York, and accepts the proposition. Demarest drops into oblivion and Stanley picks up the scattered threads of his life, both in business and at home. The "at home" part is what causes complications. The Wonderful Adventure (1915) -- Lost Silent ?
25 July 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

This 1915 drama was produced by the Fox Film Corporation, with filming locations in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Directed by Frederick Thomson and starring William Farnum in a dual role. Sadly, The Wonderful Adventure may now be a lost silent film.

An exotic mystic, Mazora ( Dorothy Green ), seduces Wilton Demarest ( William Farnum ), a wealthy contractor, and introduces him to the pleasures of opium. Unable to cope with the demands of his life, Wilton, now a hopeless addict, asks his old friend and colleague Martin Stanley ( William Farnum ) to impersonate him. Because of the strong physical resemblance between the two men, Martin succeeds in his deception, but refuses to take advantage of Eleanor ( Mary G. Martin ), Demarest's wife, and maintains a safe distance from her. Eleanor, who has fallen in love with Martin, confronts him with his cold behaviour and forces a confession from him. After discovering Wilton's impostor scheme, Mazora threatens to expose Martin but is killed in a freak electrical accident before she can execute her plan. At her request, Martin takes Eleanor to see Wilton, but finding him dead from an overdose, they pledge their love for each other.
