A Tragic Loss For Silent Cinema
1 August 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

It is my ambition to add as many silent film synopsis of films that have a survival status of unknown or presumed lost. I try to do as much research as I can and it is not my intention to deceive anyone, for sometimes the film does exist. I am more than delighted if someone has knowledge of a film listed as lost but survives, as I wish all silent films did survive. I hope the reader enjoys this brief synopsis.

Because he is unable to locate a suitable model, a famous artist ( Thomas A. Curran ) abandons a statuary group that was intended to grace a fountain. His friends find a young and inexperienced country girl ( Audrey Munson ) who is looking for work and bring her before the artist. Immediately he finds in her the model he has always sought, and soon other artists are clamouring to hire her. Although she has fallen in love with the artist, he seems interested only in his work, and when he flirts with a society woman, the model, disconsolate, vanishes. Finally the artist realizes his love for the model, and after a lengthy search, he finds her ill and hungry at the base of one of his sculptures. The artist pledges his love, and the two are married.

This 1915 silent drama was produced by the Thanhouser Film Corporation, and is notable for being the first non-pornographic American film to feature full nudity of a woman. The survival status of Inspiration is listed in the American Silent Feature Film Database as; No holdings located in archives. Fans hold out hope that a copy survives somewhere and resurfaces.
