Camille (1915) - Lost Silent ?
14 September 2015 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Count de Varville ( Frederick C. Truesdell ) supports the courtesan Camille ( Clara Kimball Young ), but she loves Armand Duval ( Paul Capellani ), a young lawyer with whom she goes to the country to live. Their happiness there is brief, as Armand's father, Monsieur Duval ( Robert Cummings ) visits Camille in secret and demands that she leave his son or be responsible for his ruined future. Camille agrees and returns to Varville, forcing Armand to believe that she does indeed love the count. Finally, he learns of his father's intrusion into the affair and rushes to see Camille, whose health has deteriorated since her departure from Armand. The couple embraces, and just after Camille and Armand pledge their love for each other, she dies in his arms.

This 1915 silent based on the 1852 novel and play La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas, was adapted by renowned screenwriter Frances Marion, produced by World Film Company starring Clara Kimball Young. The survival status of Camille is listed as unknown, sadly suggesting it may now be a lost silent.
