Paris...at the turn of the century. Inspector Vidocq investigates a series of unexplained murders at a Grand Guignol-type theatre...where the players have suddenly become real-life victims. Based on the story by Edgar Allan Poe.
Serialization novels have an episodic quality that works well in these silent short subjects. For me, I didn't enjoy Edgar Allan Poe's writings, nor have I enjoyed watching any of his adaptations. I think for short silent films, comedy works better, especially if it is Chaplin or Harold Lloyd.
