Mrs. Sidney Belgradin ( Julia Swayne Gordon ), an extravagant widow, refuses to consent to the marriage of her daughter Agnes ( Anita Stewart ) to struggling physician Loring Brent ( E. K. Lincoln ). Her interception of their letters causes each to believe that the other has lost interest, so Agnes willingly accompanies her mother abroad to find a rich husband. On her mother's insistence, Agnes marries wealthy Australian wheat magnate Geoffrey Marshe ( Harry T. Morey ) who apparently perishes along with Mrs. Belgradin when his yacht capsizes. Returning to America, Agnes discovers her mother's deception and is reconciled with Loring, whom she marries and with whom she has a son. Five years later, their happiness is interrupted by the appearance of Monsieur de la Mer, a patient of Loring's who suffers from amnesia. Agnes recognizes him as Marshe and begs her husband not to restore his memory through a brain operation. Despite her pleas, Loring performs the operation but Marshe dies of shock.

This 1914 silent romance/drama was based on a stage play Agnes by Gladys Rankin, produced by The Vitagraph Company of America, directed by Ralph Ince and starring silent screen actress Anita Stewart. The survival status of A Million Bid is listed as unknown, sadly suggesting it may now be a lost silent film.
