Rocky Road, The (1910)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

Really bizarre film from D.W. Griffith about a poor mother who takes her daughter for a walk because of her husband's refusal to get a job. The mother places her daughter down and walks away for a few minutes and in the meantime the girl is discovered by a rich family. Thinking the girl has been abandoned, the rich family takes her home to raise but years later the mother realizes who had taken the girl. Here's another political statement from Griffith about the rich and poor but the film never really takes off. There's an incredibly bizarre ending that comes out of nowhere and ends abruptly, although it makes for some nice suspense.
