Storyline

Nellie Nixon the half-breed wife of a drunken miner, and her brother, a mute, are waiting the evening homecoming of Nixon. His lateness means that he is drinking up his salary at the "Silver Dollar" saloon and fixing himself into an ugly frame of mind so he may properly abuse his half-Indian wife. He is very much intoxicated when he enters, and reeling into a chair at the table pounds loudly for his supper. The frightened girl and her brother hasten to do his bidding, but their placid and meek submission and willingness to do for him only serves to make him more irritable, and finally rising with a scowl he aims a kick at the mute and ends in throwing the boy out of the house. Then he bolts the door and turns on his wife. When the half-breed mute rises painfully and looks in at the window a thrill of horror shakes him at the scene inside.
