Under the direction of D.W. Griffiths as well as his guiding hand writing the scripts, Mary Pickford was able to launch and sustain her career as a Hollywood actress. Their alliance would continue into the 1920's when they set up United Artists with Charles Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks in order to control the distribution of their films.
