Storyline

Francia, alla fine del Cinquecento. Enrico III ha deciso di eliminare il suo rivale, il duca di Guisa, e, perciò, lo convoca nel castello di Blois. L'amante del duca, avvertita delle intenzioni del Re, lo informa, ma il nobile, sicuro della propria autorità, vi si reca ugualmente. Nel Cabinet-Vieux del castello il duca è pugnalato dalle guardie del Re, mentre questi assiste all'omicidio nascosto dietro le tende. Alla fine, Enrico III fa bruciare il corpo del duca, per disfarsene.

The murder of the Duc de Guise in 1588

Typical epic movie of this time, but one of the first great production in history: famous actors from the Comedie Française and one of the best theater director, André Calmette.

The setting is fine and rich for the time but the interpretation is a little pathetic and updated.

L'assassinat du Duc de Guise is above all a rarity because of the composer: it was the first and only music composed by very famous classic composer Camille Saint Saens.
