Why We're Excited: It’s very easy to scoff at Tyler Perry’s most popular and commercially successful character. Madea is one of the most anti-intellectual, controversial and cringe-inducing comedic figures in popular culture today. But the reason Madea has a track record of ranking in truckloads of cash at the box office is just as simple to explain – she can also be laugh-out-loud funny. It’s unlikely that Perry’s Madea will ever be celebrated for her wit or subtlety, but if you just want turn off your brain and mindlessly chuckle at slapstick humor for around two hours, then hellurrrr! This is the movie you’ve waiting for.

Why We're Not: We refer you to the above sentence about Madea and her ability to make us cringe. We should also add that seeing Eugene Levy’s terrible disguise in the trailers made our inner sad clown consider putting in a crisis call to his therapist.

Trivia: In 2011, Forbes magazine named Tyler Perry the highest paid man in entertainment. He reportedly earned $130 million between May 2010 and 2011.
