Undeniably the biggest success story of the 2013-2014 TV season's freshman class, NBC's "The Blacklist" started out ferociously fast-paced and strong, and consistently raised the stakes as the story moved along. Over the course of season one, it became one of the few shows that fans didn't want to fall behind on; conspiracies grew more tangled as the secrets surrounding Raymond Reddington's true agenda began to reveal themselves.
But that's not the only aspect of this show that inspired us to watch each new episode as soon as it premiered. Here are a few of the reasons we can't get enough of it.
It's a place where lifelong alliances are formed and battle lines drawn, a place of both adversaries and loyal friends. Where romance sometimes rears its head, where duplicity can possibly get you everywhere, where hard-earned triumphs can be won and defeat can sting the most. It's... the workplace? Yes, the landscape of employment has long been a place of comedy and drama that movies and TV have often mined for entertainment both hilarious and scathing. Ahead of the new comedy The Internship, starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, we take a look at some of our favorite workplace-set movies and TV shows.
Although one of the biggest stories to emerge from fall 2012 was an overall decline in ratings, we were still able to come up with a number of reasons that we loved watching TV in 2012. In fact, we decided that we couldn't limit our choices to just 10 shows -- and we still left a few great selections out. It's important to note that this is not our idea of a definitive Best of the Best list, although many of the series listed here also occupy slots on many Best of 2012 TV lists. Rather, this is a list of shows that we not only loved watching in 2012, but loved encouraging other people to watch. With that, here are a few reasons why we loved TV this year, in no particular order.

Halloween is definitely the ideal time to watch as many horror movies and shows as possible, but while contemplating all things slasher/zombie/vampire we realized that some of the creepiest things we've seen on TV and in movies weren't actually intended as horror. Here are a few non-horror movie moments that mentally scarred us and still send a permanent shiver down our spines.

We may have reached the traditional television season's halfway point, but lots of new series haven't premiered yet. Among these upcoming series debuts are a few destined to have a place on several "Best of 2014" lists at year's end. Others will become guilty pleasures, while some may go as quickly and quietly as they arrive.
The shows listed here fall into all of these categories, and while I can't guarantee all (or any) of them will earn huge ratings or critical acclaim, I am intrigued enough by what I've seen of them to put them on my Watchlist for at least a few episodes.

It has been said that there are only about seven themes in fiction, repackaged time and again into different stories. But when it comes to transforming literary classics into films -- including Baz Luhrmann's take on The Great Gatsby, opening this week -- there seem to be a few tales that Hollywood likes to remake over and over again. Stephen Hawking, one of the greatest physicists of our time, recently predicted that the human race will not survive another 1,000 years "without escaping our fragile planet," suggesting that space exploration will be the salvation of our species. The new film After Earth and the upcoming release Elysium certainly support that theory, but many other movies and television series have played out scenarios involving the world ending in a variety of ways. Here are a few of our favorites.
