Whether prompted by this call or not, many of those who possessed a camera attempted to capture the atmosphere of the besieged city, resulting in this extraordinary film. At once engaging, horrifying and funny, these "home movies" provide a stark testimony of the courageous spirit of a people under siege, trying to live "normal" lives against all odds.

In the course of her 28-year pilgrimage she touched the hearts, minds, and lives of thousands of individuals all across North America. - "If I saw someone else screaming like my mother, I would be sure that person was mentally disturbed, if it wasn't 100% authentic..." This is what Israel Meir says about his mother, Rabbanit Lea Kook, whose discourse, according to him, stems from absolutely authentic belief. The ultra orthodox community in general & its women in particular are extremely wary of media exposure. The film therefore provides a rare look into the lives of ultra orthodox women, their activities & their grasp of their identities. Tikkun portrays the phenomenon of the Rabbanit (the wife of a Rabbi) of Tiberius, Leah Kook, an orthodox leader followed by many Israeli women. This film is a vivid picture of the routines and customs of life in an ultra-orthodox household and introduces a very charismatic, yet highly controversial main character. Rabbanit Kook, a staunch believer in a prophecy the world refuses to hear, such an extrovert enthusiast that the filmmaker documented her intensively for two entire years. As the maker of the film disguised herself and became one of the members of the house she could explore the backyard of the scene. The surprising cooperation demonstrated by the rabbanit in making this film, and her agreement to such intimate exposure of her physical & spiritual world for two years were a form of "Tikkun" for her. By watching the Rabanit from almost no distance at all, one could reach a conclusion to the controversial attitude of the Israeli society towards Lea Kook: is she genuine or a fraud?

- "She stands on the horizon. I move two steps nearer; she moves away 10 steps. No matter how far I walk I will never reach her, so what is the utopia for? It's useful for this: to keep walking" (E. Galeano) Firenze Città Aperta deals with the days of the European Social Forum (which took place in Florence from the 10th to the 14th of November 2002) and was distributed in 60,000 copies enclosed with the newspapers L'Unità, Il Manifesto, and with the weekly Carta. Produced by Stefano Stefani for l'Atelier, the film relates the many-sided faces of the movement which came together in Florence, beginning with the eve of the Forum's events, with the shops closed and the people arguing on the streets of the center in an atmosphere of surreal tension as evidenced (and created) by the newspaper headlines. Then, in contrast, the days of the Social Forum, from the march at the American Camp Darby military base, to the seminars, to the colors and sounds of the Fortezza da Basso up until the huge and peaceful march against the war (with a million participants), interspersed by the music of the brass bands which had come from all over Europe to meet in Florence.

- "Shasan valo, sun lo aaj - Hamare gaon mein hamaara raaj" (Listen to us, you who rule - our villages, we control). A boat carrying that cargo of defiance begins an urgent journey through the Narmada valley. For more than 15 years, people of the valley have resisted a series of massive dams on their river, and in their struggle have exposed the deceptive heart of India's development politics. The struggle has forged unusual alliances. Adivasis in the hills, farmers from the Nimad plain, sand-quarriers and fishermen on the river, and middle-class activists. They are ranged against the powerful apparatus of this chosen model of development - ministers, magistrates, police commissioners, the World Bank, and in this era of privatization, multinational corporations. This is a dialogue with authority that is usually conducted across barricades. But through the tumult and slogans, we make our way to the transactions between power and powerlessness, between truth and untruth. In a world where the use of violence has become the arbiter of all political debate, "Words on Water" is about a sustained non-violent resistance, that almost joyous defiance, which empowers the people as they struggle for their rights, yet saves them from the ultimate humiliation of violence.
