One day she passes a house on the street owned by a rich man, Leopoldo, who sticks his head out the window and befriends Rina. Later, he manipulates her into marriage, although he is elderly and sick. Rafaela, Leopoldo's sinister and materialistic sister-in-law, wishes Leopoldo would die so she can inherit his fortune. Leopoldo, however, will have his revenge. Upon Leopoldo's suspicious death, it is learned during the reading of the will that Rina will inherit the house and all assets--but only if she agrees to live there. Rafaela will not inherit the house, but will be allowed to live there with her sister and son, Carlos Augusto. Naturally, this infuriates Rafaela, who with her sister concocts a sinister plan to disinherit Rina and make her leave the house, by getting Rina to marry Carlos Augusto. Her son Carlos Augusto opposes this idea. Once living in the house, Rina experiences strange and and inexplicable phenomenon that are difficult to explain. "Rina" premiered in 1977 and ran through January 1978. Its original bleak ending was changed. Remade as "Maria Mercedes" with Thalia in the nineties.

Each week Zubat defeats another masked villain leaving a card with a large "Z" in the center of it, and a red rose on the fallen criminal. Hayakawa Ken (or Ken Hayakawa to westerners) looks like he stepped out of the American west in his black leather outfit complete with cowboy hat. Like Jiro in "Jinzo Ningen Kikaida" he announces his presence by playing a guitar. In order to do battle with the villains who have one side of their faces masked, he removes from the secret compartment in his guitar the power suit and helmet which give him super human speed and agility, becoming Kaiketsu Zubat. Zubat is armed with a whip and a red dagger, of his own design. He usually enters combat by driving his flying car to the building the bad guys are hiding in, then swinging in through the window on his whip.

Celebrities were often startled, flattered, or dismayed by the questions he would ask about less frequently discussed or even obscure aspects of their lives and careers. His questioning was probing and revealing, but never adversarial. His most famous interview was one done with Burt Reynolds, where Reynolds exclaimed, "You just hit nerves." Apparently, for some time, Linehan's unprecedented interview approach made this show a popular fad among celebrities in Hollywood.

Leila's daughter, Beatriz, doesn't approve of her mother's new marriage, and is a problem for their relationship, since she wanted her mother to go back to her father, playwright Jordão Amaral. There's the obscured star Nora Pelegrini, trying a comeback after her career was interrupted by her marriage to Jordão Amaral, and not really enjoying the fact her role was a small one. There's also the young actress Cynthia Levy, struggling to succeed. And, among others, the old-timer Carijó and his daughter Lenita, who wanted a revival of his music-hall show.
