- Inspired by the 2006 Academy Award® nominee for Best Foreign Language film, "Water," this documentary tells the story of some of the 20 million Indian widows who are abandoned by their families and literally turned out into the streets when their husbands died. "Water" was a fictional recounting of this terrible tradition, set in 1938. "The Forgotten Woman" is true, and happening today.
- Dixie, a waif of the Southern waterfronts, is taken in by "Sis" Maloney and her son Joe, who make her life miserable. She is tricked into a marriage with Joe, but he is arrested on their wedding night and jailed. Dixie eventually finds romance with Keith Demming, who takes her to her first dress-up party. Joe, however, chooses that night to return, and Dixie is saved from a life with him only by the unexpected appearance of her wealthy father. Joe's accidental death frees Dixie to marry Keith.
- Miss Miller, a dedicated teacher beloved by her students, loses her job when she protects a favorite pupil, Richard Atwell, who is accused of embezzling from Mr. Riggs's bank. Years later, Richard organizes a banquet as a testimonial to Miss Miller's inspiration throughout 40 years of service, at which is presented a confession to that long-ago crime (possibly committed by Percy Riggs), an apology from Mr. Riggs, and the promise of a principalship of a new school.
