- Subtly moving along the firmly trodden traces of migrants, the narrative unfolds along the central migration route from the Sahel region via Libya and Algeria to Tunisia. The traces define the landscape and turn its backdrop into a concrete space of individual histories. Voices touch upon memories, fragmented, hinting at what they have experienced, lived, lost and dreamt. As oral-historical testimonies, the voices draw us into the constant flow of migration that reshapes itself while being reshaped. Fingers and hands caress their mirrored images, searching for traces of their past in skin marked by experience, marvelling at their own ability to withstand. Tunisian landscapes graciously carry the tableau, complemented by shots of coastal towns, alleyways and empty interiors. Images of the Mediterranean Sea merge with the sounds and fragments of lives that seem far away. Trying to understand something one has not experienced creates a perspective that is and will always be on the outside. It can only remain an attempt to let voices speak from within. It is these voices that create a spatial presence - a presence that prevents the recipients from hiding from their own vulnerability; rather, it enables them to fully engage with it and allow it to happen.
