- On Wednesday August 14, 2013, Dr. Hanan al-Amin, professor of Medicine at Zaagazig University, had been working since 7am at the field hospital at Rabaa al-Adawiya square. She was trying to treat and rescue hundreds of people who were injured when security forces dispersed the sit-in that had been staged for 40 days in east Cairo. At 16:00, security forces decided to empty the field hospital viewed as a main gathering point witnessing non-stop movement in the heart of the square. Dr. Hanan al-Amin was standing among dead bodies, trying to treat and rescue the injured, as an act of loyalty to her honourable profession and in commitment to the oath she took. At one moment, Dr. Hanan was doing her best to treat four injured people at the same time, by stopping the bleeding of one or reviving the heart of the other. A Special Forces officer approached and asked her to immediately leave the field hospital. The doctor yelled explaining she was trying to save the lives of those four injured people. Before finishing her sentence, the officer shot the four injured to death and told her: "They WERE injured! One more word, you'd join them!" Few moments later, the field hospital was set ablaze, while people were still inside. That was one scene of what happened on August 14, 2013 at Rabaa al-Adawiya square in east Cairo, Egypt's capital. According to Human Rights Watch, it was "one of the world's largest killings of demonstrators in a single day in recent history".
