- 1976. Montreal. Eight people who wanted to see and be seen at the trendiest disco will be juggling fame and anonymity until they will be forced to make sober choices in an era when excess was the norm, and when disco was king.
- Lipps Inc. performs in the music video "Funkytown" from the album "Mouth to Mouth" recorded for Casablanca Records. The music video begins with lights flickering at a disco. Lipps Inc. dance and sing at the disco in front of a large white bouquet of flowers while wearing skin tight clothing.
- Funkytown is an entertaining, movie-style documentary about the music and overall cultural scene of six American cities: Minneapolis and St. Paul, New Orleans, San Francisco, Nashville, Philadelphia, and Chicago. The series is hosted by singer, songwriter Cynthia Johnson (singer of number one hit Funkytown), who presents the hot spots and the cities' artists, bands, musicians, actors, amongst others. Each episode features VISITS to important historical, original locations (such as music bars, jazz clubs, concert halls, recording studios, amongst other original sites), PERFORMANCES of the cities' most known but also upcoming artists and bands at the city's most beautiful, outdoor locations, INTERVIEWS with renowned artists, musicians, producers, actors and all kind of people who have shaped the cultural and musical style of each city. Each of the selected city boasts a vibrant, thriving music scene since many years with different musical styles from Rock and Pop over Blues, R'n B and Jazz, to Funk, Reggae, Rap, and Hip Hop.

Each has their own particular struggle, character and sound and FUNKYTOWN unobtrusively captures the energy, ironies, sorrows and rock 'n' roll pathos of each story, making the movie more than just a film about the music business. In the course of the movie, and in the filming of the movie, someone is brutally murdered, a band breaks up on the day they were set to sign a lucrative national record contract, throat surgery threatens to bring down a singer and a key member of another group is asked by friends and fellow band members to leave.
