In desperation and in the grip of the "Green-eyed Monster," he stops at a drug store and buys poison, contemplating suicide. Arriving at his office, he finds a cake sent to his wife by her aunt, in his care; like a flash, a thought of revenge comes into his mind; he will poison the cake. Pouring the poison upon it, he sends the cake to his wife at once, thinking she and the brother will eat it. Receiving the cake, the wife gives the bearer of the cake a note to take back to her husband, telling him of the arrival of her brother. When the husband gets this information he is struck with remorse and hastens home to warn his family not to eat the cake. He arrives with a doctor, too late, they have eaten the cake. The husband is crazed with grief and fear, but the doctor finds that the druggist, probably noticing the husband's agitation, gave him a harmless fluid. The wife is dumbfounded at her husband's lack of confidence in her. He humbly craves her pardon, but she has decided to leave him. Through the pleadings of their child and love for her, the wife forgives all and a reconciliation is brought about.

- Robert Wilson, a stalwart westerner, is married to a pretty eastern girl. He has brought her to live upon a spacious ranch. Poor Millie pines for the city and the bigness and the loneliness fill her with weariness. Robert does not notice how dissatisfied Millie is. The lands next to one of Robert's boundary lines are owned by two fraudulent land promoters who find it necessary to obtain a portion of Robert's ranch. Henry Weyburn, a surveyor, is paid a large sum of money to impersonate a government surveyor and to successfully deceive him into the idea that he is not entitled to a large part of his ranch. Weyburn is invited to Robert's ranch for a visit in order that they may talk matters over carefully. Being a man of good dress and polish, he finds it easy to get on good terms with Millie, in fact he provides the diversion that she is pining for. Weyburn works cunningly and well; he deceives both Robert and Millie, and he persuades Robert that a portion of his land belongs to the United States Government. He flatters and makes love to Millie, until he makes her think that she has a real grievance and finally succeeds in making her agree to elope with him. Robert sees nothing of this domestic trouble. At the crucial moment a telegram arrives from a government official telling Robert to hold Weyburn who is wanted for fraudulent land deals. Weyburn is on the point of departure when he is stopped by Robert, and a fight occurs in which Robert detains Weyburn, but is shot in the arm. The sheriff arrives and Weyburn is arrested and taken away. Millie no longer yearns for the east, and her love is now all for her husband and his land.
