- This short documentary/drama follows award winning author James Robertson, as he explores the writing of his new novel News of the Dead, which is set in the fictional Glen Conach, Scotland. The book, which is published by Penguin, was written over five years and was partly shaped by the Covid-19 pandemic. The novel features characters set hundreds of years apart, but they are all linked by the same place: an ancient hermit, a nineteenth century charlatan and, in the present day, the Glen's eldest resident whose young schoolboy friend thinks he's seen a ghost. In the film, Director Anthony Baxter follows Robertson from his home in Newtyle, Scotland, deep into the rolling hills of a real glen - Glen Esk - in search of an ancient cross stone captured on an old postcard, once given to the novelist by a neighbor. The stone is said to have been carved by a pupil of the real-life seventh century Glen Esk hermit, Saint Drostan. While in the glen, Robertson reflects on how his own fiction is echoed by the reality of those hills today and what it is to live in a 'remote' place. Intercut with the documentary, are short dramatic scenes filmed in black and white, that give the viewer a glimpse of the three interlinked stories of Robertson's book. In particular, the scenes feature a young 'ghost girl' who appears in the grand old house that has stood in the glen for centuries.

- Fleeing the usurper William of Orange, toppled king James II Stuart resided in Louis XIV's grand spare palace St.Germain-des-Prés, with a Jacobite court in exile. William wanted war on Catholic France, so he granted parliament a liberal regime. Scotland was ignored, in famine because of the war and denied the English colonial trade until William Patterson founded the Royal Bank - and trading Company of Scotland, which made a quarter of the country's sparse cash vaporize in the Panamanian Darien colony. Effectively paying off the impoverished nobles and promising religious and other freedoms enables queen Anne, succeeded to William after a fatal fall, to 'bribe' the Union treaty in the early 1500s. Louis's fleet would fail to bring the Stuarts in exile on planned invasions of Scotland, and after 13 years a long peace was signed. Impopular taxes stirred rebellion against the union anyhow, but even when dashing 'bonnie prince Charles, heir to James III, acted upon it without waiting for the French, his initial success was wasted by a war council already near London, instead the defeat at Culloden reduced the Jacobite pretenders to specters, while the Hanoverians who succeeded to Anne established the union to last.

In fact Jenkins confesses to Nikki that he had been forced to lie because Laing spent most of his time covering for loose cannon MacNeil and needed his help. The pathologists return to the Manhattan and learn that almost all the victims had worked there, including, very briefly, Sarah. As a result Stella makes a phone call to Laing regarding her son Jerome. Laing finally confesses to Nikki, Jack and DS Ross about his relationship with Stella, which consequently leads to them finding Sarah and identifying the serial killer.

Prime suspect is hunter and gunsmith Niall Wallace but he is eliminated from enquiries. A clue leads to the Manhattan strip club, owned by Stella Nelson, who identifies the dead girl as Caitlin, who apparently gave no surname. Another dancer Amy tells Jack that Caitlin disappeared after getting into a car with a stranger but the local police, obnoxious DS MacNeil and DI Laing were not interested when she reported Caitlin missing. Five more female corpses are discovered in the forest, denoting a serial killer.
