- Penniless drifter Steve Davis finds young Jimmy Thomas just after his father is killed. The two become friends and Steve looks for work. This brings him to town where teacher June Caldwell has lent money from the school fund to the dishonest Jess Watson, She now desperately needs it back and Steve soon finds himself in the middle of the conflict.

They also so involve his sweetheart, Toots, that he cannot withdraw even when he finally learns he is being used as a tool.

Jack is aided in his quest by the heirs to the other half of the map: Helen Holt and her younger brother Billy, and by a uniformed mystery man known as "The Mystery Trooper".

His daughter Betsy, posing as a jewel thief called Mary Layton, is working to keep the crooks from absconding with the jewel, and her efforts are hindered greatly by an artist, Jimmy Baxter, who thinks she is a crook and Crone and Jaffin the good guys.

His hobnobbing with the town-elite and social upper-crust at the polo-matches gives him an inflated idea of his social position, and he decides he is is moving on up. He breaks off with his girl-friend, true-blue Cynthia Brown, and hits on débutante Gloria Staunton, who appears to have an interest in being hit upon. Gloria's interest lies mostly in showing Marco that hired-hands who can play polo still aren't to the manor born.
- Learning of Walters' inheritance, Larson kills him and assumes his identity. When Larson's men try to kill Walter's niece Lola, Jack Lane breaks it up. This leads to a showdown with Jack outnumbered by Larson and his gang. Having saved Loma's life earlier, he has Fuzzy ride for him and his men.

And, then, he finds a thousand dollar bill. His honesty makes him advertise the find, but no one claims the money. When he is convinced that the owner will not turn up and that the money is his to keep, he becomes a changed, more aggressive and self-confident person. He begins to make sales as fast as he can make the pitch and he insists that he and Molly be married at once. While getting dressed for the ceremony, he places the $1000 bill in one of his father's old suits, and Pa Armstrong, trying to raise money to buy his son a wedding present, sells the suit to a passing junk man. The wedding is held up while Henry and his father set out to reclaim the suit. They trace the suit to a second-hand store, where it has just been stolen by a couple of tramps. Henry locates the tramp who has the suit, and trades him his new coat for it and is relieved to find the bill still in the pocket. Shortly afterward, the clothing store man arrives with the police and charges Henry with theft. Brought before the justice of peace, Henry explains about the bill and turns it over to him. The latter examines the bill and discovers it to be a fake and just an imitation put out by a furniture store as an advertisement. Henry takes the news philosophically, and decides that since he was successful when he "thought" he had a thousand dollars, he can retain the traits he had acquired.

At the same time he�۪s smuggling illegal furs right past the Coast Guard. Can the authorities catch him out? A classic film directed by Hamilton MacFadden.

- Steele gets into a fight with a ranch foreman, knocking the foreman out. The foreman was supposed to represent the ranch in a prize fight with a middleweight champion. Now Steele finds himself in the fight of his life.
- Hearing of a native uprising at the African Copper Mines at Karanga, manager Edmund Daniels and American counsel Jeff Worthing catch an arms-and-ammunition bearing train. Other passengers include Paul Stacco, a sort of native white god expected to settle the rebellion peacefully; Daniels's secretary David Wallace; Dr. Greenleaf and his nurse Julia Garrett; Steve Harley, a young American adventurer; Manek Sen, a mysterious Eurasian; and Slats Breese, an American fight trainer. Daniels is murdered on the train and an investigation reveals that Dr. Greenleaf's real name is one notorious in medical circles, and that Manek Sen is set on killing Hawley to get the latter's treasure maps. Daniel's papers are found in Stacco's possession. Julia is wounded when the natives, under Stacco's orders, attack the train. Later, Jeff exposes Wallace as Daniels' killer, as Daniels had discovered he had been stealing from the mine.
- A rancher's son finds himself helping another rancher who is at odds with his father--all because of the father's crooked partner.
- Dr. Robert Cromwell performs a delicate operation that has never been done before, and the patient dies. He is charged with malpractice and manslaughter and his trial is national news, but the jury acquits him. But the court of public opinion is still against him, and the medical board will meet to decide whether or not to take his medical license away. Before they do, amateur pilot Cromwell decides to join his friend, WWI Ace Donald Evans, on a flight to Alaska looking for a shorter route to Japan by following the Aleutian Islands. They crash in Alaska and Evans is killed, but Cromwell is rescued by fur trapper Tom Ross. He takes Cromwell to Armstrong's Trading Post, where he is nursed back to health by Klondike, a girl who works for Armstrong and was engaged to marry Armstrong's son Jim, who is now suffering from the same disease that Cromwell's last patient had. Mark talks Cromwell into performing the same operation, and this time it's a success--or would have been if Jim hadn't decided to fake it being a failure.
- Lloyd Wilson, trusted employee of an investment firm, is suspected of theft when $20,000 in security bonds is stolen from his office. Tarzan, the Famous Police Dog, has an intuitive dislike of an apparently respectable citizen, and this leads Wilson and the police to the gang headquarters. Tarzan wins a public citation for his leading part in breaking the case against a desperate gang of criminals.
- Gamblers kidnap Atlantic's star quarterback Clark Jenkins.
- Vane hires Candel to haul his locomotive by freight wagon to Omaha. Ross knows that the railroad will mean the end of his freighting business and plans to make sure the locomotive does not get through. When his attempts are foiled, he and his men take all the guns and leave. With the Indians about to attack, Candel and his crew find themselves defenseless.
- Other than a statement in the opening credits that the story owes its origin to a John Greenleaf Whittier poem, this film has little or no connection to the poem for which it shares its title. In this film, Kenneth Hale, a pampered, snobbish young boy, is sent by his father, John Hale, who has served time in prison for a crime he did not commit, down to the country farm of an old friend, Calvin Whittaker. The barefoot, honest, and plucky Billy Whittaker, his girlfriend Pige Bennett, and Kenneth get involved with a "haunted" house and a gang of crooks, while Billy helps make a "better man" out of Kenneth.
- Prizefighter Bob Neal (Ray Walker) is in debt to gangster Vic Santell (Hooper Atchley) for training expenses. Santell orders Bob to take a dive in the fourth round so Santell can recoup prior gambling losses. Taunted by his ring opponent, Bob wins the fight. Realizing that his profession and underworld characters connected to it are causing him problems, Bob decides to join the police force. After taking nurse Mary Prentiss (Geneva Mitchell) to a drive-in restaurant where the total bill is a depression-era cheap eighty-two cents, Bob and his fellow officers round-up a gang of fur thieves in a warehouse shoot-out.
- An ex-convict, unable to get a good job because of his prison record, gets mixed up in a phony stock scam.
- Tomboy is sent to finishing school where she falls for the headmaster. When her love letters are discovered she okays his relation with a teacher and gets her first kiss from a beau.
- Learning of a certain cantina dancer, notorious outlaw El Rayo bets he can bring her back voluntarily that night. Arriving, he learns that she loves the craps table operator Johnny Powell. When Johnny catches one of El Rayo's men with loaded dice, he must outdraw him. El Rayo gets Johnny put in jail and tells the dancer that he will have his men break him out and hang him unless she comes with him.

- Rancher Blaze Barker returns to Dead Falls after being framed by land-grabbers and spending two years in jail. Paroled, he can't wear a gun, but is aided by Marshal Fargo Steele. The gang is out to gain control of all of the valley land before a dam is constructed. When Blaze raises the money to pay off the taxes on his ranch, he finds it has been marked to incriminate him.
- Vaudeville couple Joe and Sally split on bad terms. Sally, a beautiful and talented young woman, gets a break as a chorus girl in a musical production, and then hits the big time with a song she wrote.
- Complications arise for newlywed Kay Kyser and his bride when he gets involved in espionage at the request of the Army.

- John Taylor is a reluctant juror. It's a murder trial against gangster Joseph Britt. Tom Evans, the father of the victim, shoots Britt in court and gets arrested. John's father George is actually Tom's friend.

Close to being found out, the two devise a scheme which sends Wally, the ex-con boyfriend of pretty hat check girl Rose Abbott, to death row.

- The beautiful, frivolous wife of a plantation owner in antebellum Louisiana proves unsatisfactory at running the household, leading her serious-minded husband to enlist the help of her unmarried sister.
- This package for comedy and the musical numbers has Luke Brown being drugged by the gangster operators of the swank Boathouse Inn; most notably Roxie a sexy pickpocket. Brown has information that Chow Brewster and his cousin have inherited $3,000,000. The owner of the Inn intends to keep Brown under wraps until they can drive Chow to suicide. He will then marry Chow's cousin before she finds out about her inheritance.
- Paddy O'Riley and Ossie Merrill, Bellport high school football heroes, enroll in distant colleges; Paddy at a small school in the East, where he is barely a substitute, and Ossie at a powerhouse-football school, where he is an instant star and all-American candidate. They leave behind Cheers Reynolds, who is fond of Paddy, who works in her family's drugstore, but she loves Ossie almost as much as he loves himself. Paddy makes friends with team fullback Dutch Schultz, who accompanies him on vacation, and they arrive back in Bellport just as Ossie is also coming home on break. Florence Taylor is also in town on a film junket. Unknown to any of the others, Paddy and Florence had gone to high school together. Back at school and three years later, Paddy and Dutch learn that their football team could get invited to the coveted Rose Bowl to play against Ossie's team, if it could get enough publicity (pre-BCS days) that would attract a large crowd. They are soon up to their hip-pads in publicity when the newspapers learn that Paddy is in love with Cheers, who is in love with Ossie, who is in love with Florence, who loves Schultz. The Eastern team gets invited. Cheers, on an innocent mission, is discovered in Paddy's room the night before the game by Coach Soapy Moreland, who suspends Paddy from the team and orders him to turn in his uniform which, based on the unrealities that this film portrays as college football (even in the 1930's), he probably had hanging on a hook in his hotel room closet.
- Hollywood legend Alan Ladd makes one of his first film appearances in this long-lost feature-length comedy. Working stiff Tom Tupper is stopped by a 'man on the spot' reporter during his daily commute. Asked for his opinion on male/female relations, Tom tells the radio audience that he thinks men could do a better job running the household than women. When he arrives home, his infuriated wife Margaret proposes that her husband put his money where his mouth is. The couple switch roles, with Margaret going to the office and Tom cooking and cleaning. While Margaret becomes a successful entrepreneur, the man of the house comes dangerously close to having a nervous breakdown. Overwhelmed by a woman's work, Tom begs Margaret to go back to the way things were, but his now-independent wife isn't interested.
- When a department store songstress becomes a radio star she keeps her identity secret, as the "Masked Countess", because he estranged husband is a crook.
- After Bob Lansing (Jay Wilsey as Buffalo Bill Jr). is involved in a nightclub scrape, where he meets Montana rancher Madge Holt (Allene Ray)), his father sends him out west with his chauffeur Ben (Ben Corbett). In Montana, they are mistaken for rustlers Dick (Tom London) and Jim (Yakima Canutt), and Bob again meets Madge, who recognizes him but wishes to make things difficult for him.
- Gail Pyne leaves her grandfather Jedediah's lakeside cabin, where "Jed" manufactures rifles and bullets, to work with commercial artist Curt Hayden, a widower. In the parking garage of their office, Curt and Gail witness a gangland murder and robbery. Curt uses his talent as an artist to draw portraits for the police of the robbers, Baldy, Trim and Trigger Benson. Trigger Benson is arrested, but when Curt arrives at the courthouse to testify, Baldy and Trim shoot him, hoping to eliminate the witness. Curt survives, however, and gives testimony from his hospital bed, after which Gail convinces him to take his young son Johnny, to Jedediah's cabin to recuperate. Curt reluctantly complies, and they all settle into the homey cabin. Johnny, who is jealous of Curt and Gail's growing love for each other, becomes a fast friend of Jed, who promises to make a child-size rifle for him and teach him how to shoot, as he did for Gail. Unknown to Curt, the soap company for whom he is creating an advertisement is a front for Baldy and Trim, who, having knocked-off one of their accomplices, now plan to get rid of Curt. They use his correspondence to locate him. When Curt proposes to Gail, they decide to get married the next day. Jedediah locks up the house, and they all bundle into the car headed for the county seat. Johnny slips out of the car at the last minute unnoticed, unhappy over the prospect of a new mother, and stays behind at the cabin. No one notices his absence until they arrive at the minister's. They decide to return to the cabin after they are married, but in the meantime, Baldy and Trim have infiltrated the house and are keeping a watchful eye on Johnny. When they are asleep, he manages to plug their guns up with bullet lubricant, but does not realize until it is too late that they still have handguns. Curt, Gail and Jedediah arrive in the morning to find Johnny in the grasp of one of the killers. Trim is knocked down by the backfire of his rifle when he tries to shoot, and Gail, an expert marksman, uses a rifle that Jed never got a chance to deliver and shoots Baldy, while Johnny is in his arms. Johnny is unharmed and has gained a new respect for his new mother. With the gangsters finally out of the way, they are now one happy family.
- When silver is found in Virginia City, Lawyer John Storm leads a group from Indiana west. He soon has to defend them all in court against a company that is after their claims. Fighting a crooked Judge, he gets a mis-trial by telling how much each of the jurors was bribed. Then he gets the Governor to appoint a new Judge. But just as the retrial opens, the Judge learns his daughter has been kidnaped.

The police have an all-out manhunt going for him, while he is being held by the gangsters in their hideout.

- This vintage drama from Republic Pictures features a colorful cast, headlined by Ann Rutherford (Gone With The Wind), Russell Hardie (Fail Safe), and Fritz Leiber (The Hunchback of Notre Dame). Director Lewis D. Collins, whose career dates back to the westerns of the silent era, filmed exclusively in Florida locations for this feature, including Crystal Springs.
- For the love and respect of his daughter, a crime boss reconsiders his involvement in the extortion racket he's built.
- Ranger Jack Mason is sent to Manzanita to bring in Ann Jordan, head of the Jordan gang, reputed to have murdered a rancher and stolen his herd. Mason helps her out during an ambush and, gaining her confidence, hears her side of the story - that tax collector Ott Ramsey, in cahoots with the law, is illegally increasing taxes on ranches and foreclosing on them, and was responsible for the murder in question. Learning she's telling the truth, Mason tries to put her under protective custody but must change his plans when Ramsey and his gang kidnap her and plan her murder.
- Jimmy goes to work with his uncle, the owner of a food factory. Before he gets there, he befriends an Irish family who happens to be his uncle's worst enemy because of their love for music and in-house band who constantly practices.
- Jimmy Durante is jungle star Schnarzan the Conqueror, but the public is tiring of his fake lions. So when Baron Munchausen comes to town with real man-eating lions, Durante throws a big party for him so that he might use the lions in his next movie, but his film rival sneaks into the party to buy the lions before Durante can.

The film is based on the life of Daniel Decatur Emmett, who wrote the classic song "Dixie."
- With thousands of cattle being rustled from White Sage ranch the 1930's Texas Rangers are called in. They manage to get one of their agents into the gang by making them think he is the Pecos Kid on the lam.
- Fred and Joan are a married couple working at the Benson's business. Mrs JJ Benson has a strict policy against married employees, so they keep it a secret while they save every penny as they wish to have a baby. Everything goes well until Mrs Benson decides to install her good-for-nothing son in the store and assigns Joan as his secretary. Then one day she is asked to model dresses for a late customer.
- A vaudeville star has to leave her daughter with her dead husband's stuffy Boston parents while she makes a living. But when the daughter shows some talent, the mother become a stage mother and pushes her daughter into becoming a Broadway star. The mother is a monster with a heart of gold, and after breaking up the daughter's love affair, finally sees the error of her ways.
- In between romantic bouts with a widow, the Cisco Kid corrals a gang of bad guys led by a crooked judge; the gang are driving people off their land and blaming it on the Kid.
- John Evans encounters his lookalike, Malcolm Scott. When Scott is killed in an accident, Evans finds himself mistaken for Scott and decides to do some good in his new role.
- In order to save herself while in China, a woman marries a young drifter and is able to return to England. Later, believing that her new husband is dead, she marries a wealthy man. Her new husband's ex-girlfriend, learning of the woman's past and that her first husband is indeed alive, threatens to expose the new wife as a bigamist.
- A young woman is torn between a wealthy suitor who wants her body and the honest young man who wants what's best for her.
- A young man befriends the last surviving Civil War veteran, intending to rob him of $50,000.
