A new generation of British pop arrived and the veteran TOTP orchestra was laid off, resulting in a Musician's Union strike that took the program off the air for nine weeks. This program looks at the year in which the traditional Top of the Pops MoR clashed head on with New Wave, and the UK was falling apart with almost continuous strikes.
