- Brandon runs for vice president alongside Josh and does great when he steps in and gives a speech in Josh's place. Their campaign is threatened, however, when Alex Diaz - their opponent's campaign manager - uncovers the unpublished article that Josh wrote about Brandon the previous year, detailing Brandon's tutoring of D'Shawn and alleging that Brandon took tests for D'Shawn. Donna asks Clare (now attending C.U. as a sophomore) to move into the beach apartment in David's place, but Clare brings a bad snoring habit with her. Meanwhile, Valerie secretly decides to pursue Dylan after finding Brenda's mementos of him in the Walsh's garage, and hides her connection to the Walshes from him.

Later, David lands in danger on a nature hike with the group, and Noah ends up saving him from injury.
- After David's mother attempts to kill herself, it turns him into a recluse and it brings back bad memories for Valerie over her father's suicide. Meanwhile, Toni invites Dylan and his friends over for dinner at her father's mansion where Toni's bodyguard, Bruno, confronts Dylan that he and Marchette know all about him and his father. Also, Brandon finally negotiates a date with Susan, but dating and newspaper politics sometimes don't mix. Elsehwere, Nat and his chef, Willie, try to catch an elusive mouse at the Peach Pit that's hurting their business, until Donna comes to their rescue.
- Joey runs away from the homeless shelter and returns to Kelly, who eventually extracts the whole story about Joey's troubles with his mother and stepfather. Meanwhile, Rob asks Valerie's advice on a movie script while a mutual attraction between them develops. Tracy and Brandon quarrel over their spring break plans when Brandon is mailed two airline tickets to visit his parents and Tracy wants to go east to visit hers. David is with Donna at the hospital after her father suffers a stroke. Steve is taken aback by Clare's contract with her "male side" while the gang are preparing to protect his father's beach house from a coming storm.
- Kelly's disapproval of her mother's return to modeling increases when she learns that her baby sister Erin is involved. Meanwhile, the Walshes finally learn that Dylan is broke when the proposed Peach Pit expansion leads to an exposure of his finances. Valerie, still smearing with both anger and pity after catching Dylan cheating on her, confirms to them that Dylan is bankrupt. Jim then offers Dylan financial assistance. But the growingly misanthropic Dylan is too far gone to accept any sympathy and rudely blows off Jim. While Donna has trouble balancing the affections of both Griffin and Ray, she sees Griffin's sleazy other side when he whisks her away for an overnight trip to Catalina Island and attempts to seduce her. David's love experiment by handcuffing himself to Clare's bed to win her affections backfires when her father shows up and takes her out to dinner, leaving David alone. The next morning, when Steve and David come over to Dylan's house to talk about the Peach Pit After Dark expansion, they find Valerie in bed with Dylan. Steve, being the person he is, draws the wrong conclusion and responds by punching Dylan in the face.
- Brian is named Stephanie's 'worst accessory' in a tabloid magazine. Nicole gets a chilly reception from the younger mothers in her Moms and Us class. Adam and Natalie decide to have a sex-only relationship with no dating or emotions to interfere. Dave is having a hard time dealing with his feelings regarding Richard and it doesn't help when both chaperon a field trip. The secret of Adam and Nicole's night together is getting harder and harder to keep secret. Deena and Nicole open up a cupcake shop and Dave decides to move forward in his relationship with Deena.
- United States Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Burke teams up with an unlikely partner to hunt an elusive and vicious counterfeiter known as the "Dutchman."
- Neal finds himself working with Sara Ellis an insurance investigator who has it for him. He and Peter are helping her find out who has possession of Japanese bonds. They believe that man named Mr. Black who they believe is a courier whom the one is possession of the bonds wants to move them. So they come up with a plan for Neal to take his place. When he meets the contact he gives Neal a gun and brings him to the apartment of Ellis, whom he has to kill. When they fake her death, she along with Peter and Neal try to find out who wants her dead.
- A talented teenage con artist wreaks havoc in Manhattan, and Neal must decide if he should help him or take him down.
