- Monroe is amused when Springer gets a lawyer's letter following his inability to distinguish between a tumor and an abscess. Monroe himself is preparing to operate on straight-talking Bridget Addy to cure her epilepsy. She is unhappy when he tells her that she will only have a local anesthetic as he removes part of her brain so he can check her speech; so Lizzie persuades Neil,Bridget's ex-husband,to give - reluctant - support, though he does not stay around after the operation. Jenny deals with teen-aged Grace Bushnall,who has been promised a heart transplant for some years and is now reluctant to have the operation, though Jenny persuades her and again Sarah proves her worth. Gillespie also finds Mullery ever more impressive as they operate together on a man in need of an aortic graft. Lawrence decides to go back to Jenny whilst Monroe decides that he and Lizzie are never destined to be more than friends after he has sex with Anna.
- His confidence restored and aware that Anna is happy with her new man Monroe goes on a date with Lizzie though it is inadvertently interrupted by Nick. After being caught shop-lifting and lashing out Sally Indale's violent personality is attributed to an aneurysm in her temporal lobe. Monroe successfully operates but,on coming to,Sally is shown to be naturally aggressive whilst Sarah,having persuaded Max Portas,an amateur footballer with myocarditis,that it is in his interests to have an operation,has cause for regret. Sarah is still dating Springer,who is unaware of her fling with Lawrence. Lawrence,feeling guilty and unable to sustain his relationship with Jenny,moves in with Monroe.

New head of clinic Gillespie disapproves of mavericks whilst Monroe sees nurse specialist Lizzie,appointed to give patient support,as taking on his role. At home Monroe invites ex-wife Anna and her new partner,vet Dave,for dinner where son Nick drops a bombshell by saying that he intends to marry his girlfriend Donna shortly. Jenny feels at home after operating on an elderly patient but relations with Lawrence are strained. Monroe defies Gillespie by performing a dangerous operation successfully,after which he is told that only one of his trainees,Kitty Wilson or Springer,can be promoted to registrar.
- Whilst Lizzie attempts to build bridges Monroe is still resentful of Gillespie's interference - ultimately promoting Springer over Kitty Wilson. The surgeons are kept busy with a variety of cases,including Shelley Maxwell,a young girl whose brain shunt,fitted as a baby,is starting to malfunction but worries that,once it is fixed,her estranged parents will have no reason to unite,Lizzie intervening to help. Lynn Monkford believes she will die of cancer within a year,requiring Monroe to perform a delicate operation to reduce her tumour so that she may have some quality of life and Graham Birdwell needs a double heart by-pass helped by his disabled brother. Mullery comes to the rescue of Sarah Witney when she wavers over an emergency admission with a nail in his chest but Lawrence and Jenny are rapidly drifting apart. She suggests counselling but instead he seeks comfort with Sarah.
- Following his failure to save Lynn Mountford Monroe is doubting his capabilities,even taking advice from Gillespie. He rallies to the occasion when 25-year old,mother-dominated Alex Schofield has a benign tumour in his spine but stops halfway through the operation. However,having successfully removed a knife from a rugby fan's head in an emergency operation he regains his confidence and removes Alex's tumour. Jenny meanwhile successfully races against time to save a little Pakistani girl and she and Lawrence go for counselling though Sarah has had to stop Lawrence from telling Jenny about their fling. Sarah agrees to go on a date with Springer,who is allowing his new status as registrar to go to his head,but she makes sure they end up at Monroe's cards school.

The victim was last seen in the company of her boyfriend Andy,according to her baby-sitter Lynn Southy and he becomes the prime suspect.
- Laurence surprises Monroe with the news that he is thinking of leaving to work elsewhere but changes his mind after a talk with Jenny,where she tells him why she shies away from relationships. Despite their nerves and some subterfuge on the part of some of them the trainees all pass their evaluations but there is bad news when thirteen year old Natasha Fraser is admitted with brain damage after a car accident and Monroe,after an unsuccessful operation,has to turn off her life support machine. It brings back memories of his own daughter's death and provides a shared moment with Anna,making the divorce less painful.
- After spending the night with Tatiana, Monroe meets Brendan,a middle-aged family man whose tumour is giving him epileptic fits. Supported by his teen-aged daughter Phoebe,Brendan believes that the fits bring him closer to God though he eventually agrees to surgery,to Phoebe's dismay. However Springer has his doubts as to the operation's success. Jenny has two very different patients,James,an orphan with Downs' Syndrome and cocky ladies' man Alex though they hit it off through their mutual love of computer games. Jenny and Laurence do not thank Monroe for gloating over the collapse of their affair but at least they give it another go whereas all he has is his poker club,having been accused by Anna of finding a new partner too soon and by Tatiana of using her to hit out at his wife.
- Sally Fortune,one of Monroe's team,collapses during an operation and is revealed to have a life-threatening aneurysm requiring immediate surgery. It is successful and even brings Monroe closer to Springer. Nick believes his father should fight harder to save his marriage, which leads to their also becoming closer. Mullery rejoices at sally's recovery whilst Jenny and Lawrence agree to carry on their relationship.

Creegan finds that he has to go back to school,literally,to discover the disturbed woman behind the attacks and risk his life to save another victim.

She assures Jolyon that there has been no one in her life, a message he relays to Soames, who refuses to believe it. He even visits Irene, but unable to find grounds for divorce, he decides that he wants her back. All he manages to do is frighten her into fleeing to Paris. Val Dartie (Julian Overden) is disgusted by his drunken father, Montague Dartie (Ben Miles), who he sees cavorting with courtesans in a casino. Montague decides to abandon his family and leave for Buenos Aires. Soames insists that his sister, Winnifred (Amanda Root), institute divorce proceedings. Val and Jolyon's daughter, Holly (Amanda Ryan), strike up a close friendship. When they agree to marry, Holly's brother, Jolly (Christian Coulson), intervenes by challenging him to join the army and go to South Africa.

The local nawab visits the club and the British are anxious to get him on side against Gandhi though at a party in his honour he is angry that Indians are barred from the club. Having realized that Adam is his son and that Sarah knows Alice's husband is alive, Whelan attempts to bribe the Raworths by securing an English school place for their son. However, he is genuinely shocked to find that, having once loved Jaya, he would have married her if he had known about Adam and accuses Cynthia of keeping them apart. A vengeful Cynthia counters by telling Ralph that Madeleine has no money but this only draws him closer to his fiancée. He is also intrigued when one of his staff finds a bracelet that belonged to Jaya.
- Ramu's trial begins in a packed courtroom where he is defended by Vinod Mukesh, assisted by Sooni, with oily British lawyer Hugh Slater prosecuting. Despite Ramu's warning that it will alienate him from the British community, Ian testifies for Ramu, but in vain, as the case against him is found. Leena, suspecting that Ralph is Adam's father, also takes the stand to suggest that an unknown Briton, the father of the child, was the killer, and Sarah is distraught when Dougie rises to stop the examination. However after the trial Dougie returns the Viceroy's cheque to Ralph, telling him he is not welcome at the mission school. Aafrin apologizes to Alice and, aware that it was Sita who failed to deliver the message, rejects her.
- A vote is taken to lift the ban on Indians at the club and Cynthia is not happy with the outcome. Sarah Raworth and her son return to England though her parting from Dougie is not passionate. Aware that Adam is Ralph's son, Dougie rebukes his fellow Briton for his lack of concern but is grateful to Leena for allowing him to continue running the orphanage. After Bhupi attempts suicide Ralph tells Aafrin that they grew up together and it becomes apparent to Aafrin who really killed Jaya. He rushes to halt the execution but is too late. Sooni, unaware of this, accuses him of betrayal and Singh prevails upon him to keep spying for the Congress party. Following the execution a devastated Ian becomes a local hero for his passionate outburst though most Britons are unimpressed. One exception is Alice, who, as she continues her affair with Aafrin, believes they should admit it to Ralph. Aafrin, however, aware that Ralph did nothing to save Ramu, dissuades her, telling her that Ralph is a dangerous man, who cannot be trusted.
- Night and Day is a British soap unlike any other. Set in Greenwich, and focusing on the lives of six very different families, including a missing 16-year-old girl, who appears in flashback and fantasy sequences.

- The motto of the Scottish kings - Nemo mi impune lacessit ("Don't Mess With Me") sets the tone for this story. It's payback time for DI John Rebus in his pact with the crime under-lord Morris Gerald Cafferty for his finding the person who put Rebus' daughter in a life-threatening coma, the result of a hit-and-run accident. This time, it's Cafferty's illegitimate son who was "six-packed" and killed, and Cafferty is calling in his chips from Rebus. Rebus has to cope with a backdrop of gun running, jailbreaks, left- and right-wing extremists, nationalists and other splinter groups who are spouting racist philosophies, and imported white-power fanatics who are perpetrating hate crimes.
- In 1936, Edward VIII abdicated in order to marry the woman he loved, Wallis Simpson, a twice-divorced American. These events caused a scandal around the world. Wallis and Edward is an attempt to portray the romantic aspects of the story from Wallis's point of view. The drama follows the beginning of their affair whilst Edward was Prince of Wales and Wallis was still married to Ernest Simpson.

- A heroic stranger causes trouble for Merlin after risking his life to save Arthur.

- Part One: An ugly old troll drinks a potion transforming herself into the glamorous Lady Catrina, who arrives at Camelot with her servant Jonas. Gaius, who has met the real Catrina, and Merlin, who witnesses her true identity, are unable to convince bone-headed Uther of Catrina's real nature, especially when she bewitches him by giving him a magic pendant. Merlin attempts magic to expose her but she is too strong and it is too late to stop her marrying the king and becoming the queen of Camelot.
- As the police close in on a suspect, Maya decides to take drastic action. Shane begs her for answers and learns the truth about their shared past.
- A treasure chamber is unearthed beneath Camelot, the centre-piece being a glowing blue stone in the sarcophagus lid of Cornelius Sigan. Decades earlier, Sigan was executed for sorcery and died vowing revenge. Greedy Cedric, hearing only of the treasure, comes to Camelot. Learning that Arthur has the one key to the vault, he worms his way into the dim young prince's confidence and steals it, looting the chamber and prying away the stone (which is actually Sigan's wicked soul). Consequently possessed by Sigan's spirit, Cedric takes on his magic powers and animates the castle gargoyles, which terrorize the city. In return for a promise to one day set him free, Merlin acquires extra powers from the Great Dragon and does battle with Cedric, saving Camelot once again. Given what has happened, Uther is more convinced than before that magic is only evil.
- With the last pieces of the puzzle starting to fall into place, Maya confronts her husband's family one last time, and Kierce seeks help from Corey.
- Hearing that his village is being threatened by a warlord and his gang, Merlin travels home with Gwen, Morgana and Arthur, the latter doing his best to drill the peaceful villagers into a fighting force. Merlin's friend William is dismissive of Arthur's efforts, feeling they constitute egoism, though he ultimately saves the young prince's life. Nonetheless the villagers are inexperienced in martial ways and Merlin must use magic and conjure up a wind-storm to help see off the bandits.
- The Questing Beast is on the loose near Camelot, and Arthur, ignoring a warning from Morgana who has dreamed that it will kill him, is bitten by the creature before Merlin slays it. Arthur sinks into a coma and the Great Dragon tells Merlin he can only save him by traveling to the Isle of the Blessed. On arrival there Merlin meets the witch Nimueh, who gives him the antidote, water from the Cup of Life, but warns him that, to save Arthur's life, another must be sacrificed. Arthur drinks the water and recovers but Merlin discovers the witch was not lying - his mother is consequently endangered. This will lead to the greatest ever test of both his emotions and his magic powers as he returns for a last show-down with Nimueh.
