- Cam Ellerby (Ray Middleton) brings his traveling medicine show to town and it spells glamor and excitement to young Sylvia Townsend (Eileen Christy). Her mother, Kathleen (Lucille Norman), recalls the days when she was part of a similar troupe before her husband began wandering. Kathleen has plans to remarry, but discovers that Ellerby is her long-lost husband. Most of the story takes place in Kokomo, Indiana and the full name, as expressed in the film, of the sign-painter Jim Riley (Harry Carey Jr.)is James Whitcomb Riley, who later wrote a poem or two.
- Colonel Humphrey Flack is the consummate con-man, swindling swindlers at every opportunity.
- Brothers Mike and Bob Brannigan are private detectives who work out of a resort in Phoenix, Arizona. Bob is a serious, down-to-earth professional, while Mike is more of a free spirit, always getting in trouble with women. Together the brothers investigate cases ranging from insurance fraud to murder.
- McGraw is a solitary type who manages to get entangled in the stopping of criminal activity despite not having any official capacity. He often doesn't carry a weapon, especially if an attractive woman is involved.
- A short-lived anthology series, with a running theme. Each episode focused on a person or group that was being pursued. Charles Russell and Eva Wolas shared the role of the producer, while several well-known actors performed. At least one of the episodes was scripted by Rod Serling, who had recently moved to California.

- Johnny Midnight (Edmond O'Brien) is an ex-actor/theater owner, now turned private eye. His turf is Broadway and New York City's theater district. He lives in a penthouse apartment above the Midnight Theater on West 44th St. and has an Asian houseboy/assistant named Aki (Yuki Shimoda). The majority of his clients are in the theatrical business and one of his trade marks is using his acting and makeup talents as disguises in his PI investigations. This series has very Noir-ish undertones that are emphasized especially with having Film Noir stalwart (D.O.A. and many others) Edmond O'Brien in the lead to provide that cinematic memory. Maxine Cooper (who played Velda in Film Noir classic Kiss Me Deadly) also makes an appearance in an episode titled Phantom Bribe. Set in 1960 the episodes are replete with beatnik slang and characters. The series also has a very nice jazzy score provided by Joe Bushkin.
- George Nader is Joe Shannon, an insurance investigator for the Transport Bonding and Insurance Company who is assigned cases by his boss Bill Cochran, played by Regis Toomey. The main character of Shannon is his 1961 Buick, which is specially equipped with every high-tech gadget from that period. Shannon has no attractive secretary like other private eyes at the time because in his car sits a dictating machine where he recites his reports for Cochran. Shannon is the original multi-tasker. Press a button and a movie camera pops up or a hidden gun appears. The show is based in Los Angeles and offers up some vintage street scenes of early-'60's L.A. "Shannon" was produced by Screen Gems/Columbia Pictures and the show was syndicated, which was unusual at the time. Smaller production companies syndicated shows for local stations, not major studios.
- A bumbling hero with a photographic memory winds up in Morocco as a private in the French Foreign Legion. He still hasn't adjusted after 18 months. Among other things, he's lost a tank.
