Elsewhere, Bartlet has just returned from India with a collection of antique chess sets he gives as gifts to the staff. He plays Toby while they discuss their recent blow-up, Bartlet's insomnia and Toby's fervent belief that the president's enormous intellectual gravitas is an asset, not a liability, to the campaign. He also plays Sam as they discuss a critical detente standoff between China and Taiwan. And Charlie and C.J. stand off in a series of pranks over a missing copy of the president's private schedule.

But Jackie's drug use is at its zenith and after writing a gorgeous recommendation for Zoey's graduate program, Zoey witnesses Jackie make a near fatal error with a patient. And Zoey's suspicions are raised and then confirmed once Helen dies. Jackie attends Kevin's wedding which is going smoothly until Grace pieces together that Gabe's a dealer. Jackie and Gabe get into an argument that turns physical and after a serious altercation, Jackie and Gabe are both kicked out of Kevin's wedding. And Zoey walks into Akalitus' office to inform her about Jackie.

Coop's dream of becoming chief has finally come true. Just as Jackie's at the end of her rope, Eddie comes through with the Suboxone. Jackie takes it and heads to Grace's awards ceremony, where she is shocked to learn that her daughter has started an Al-Anon chapter at school. When Grace gives a speech about how difficult it is to be the child of an addict, Jackie is devastated but supportive. That evening, she discovers the stash of Oxy in Grace's room and after a full day of being sober, takes a handful. When Frank comes home, she confesses that she's high. Furious, Frank walks out on her. Jackie lets him go and then, suddenly terrified of losing her entire life again, chases him down and begs him to help her get clean.

Josh takes the governor of Indiana into a private meeting to determine if the man plans to challenge Bartlet in Democratic primary. C.J. takes heat from a smarmy Dallas entertainment reporter who is in town for the Nobel dinner but winds up having to cover the veto and override vote, but after the reporter embarrasses her during a live stand-up, C.J. one ups the woman in front of the press corps. Later, Sam, Toby and Josh try to help the president decide what to say to the parents of the two murdered students.

An automatic pill dispenser replaces Eddie at the emergency room and leaves him hoping for a different kind of relationship with Jackie. Dr. Cooper, too, has fallen for Jackie after she kissed him. - After avoiding Eddie, O'Hara and the drug dealer who has come looking for his stolen pills, Jackie takes off early for a family vacation upstate. But when Jackie misplaces the stash of pills she brought to get her through the vacation, she starts to unravel bit by bit.

- Kevin interrupts Jackie and Frank's night. Akalitus' blood results are in and her memory loss is a result of a medication she's been taking. Zoey helps Prentiss organize his disaster of an office. Meanwhile, Jackie is convinced that Grace is sneaking behind her back to see Danny, but Grace assures her they broke up. Frank urges Jackie to work on her issues - so she attends an AA meeting.
- Kevin's engagement has left Jackie reeling. After having a sex dream that involves both Eddie and Kevin, Jackie wakes up with Frank at the foot of her bed asking to move in. She's not ready for that and will have to think of some way to keep him at bay. While staking out Kevin's fiancé's dress shop with Antoinette, Jackie gets more than an eyeful when she witnesses the budding relationship between Kevin's fiancé, Mia, and Grace. Jackie makes a scene, forcing Kevin to cancel the dinner he had planned to formerly introduce them. Meanwhile, back at All Saints, Akalitus's string of luck at poker continues, Coop and Carrie's bond deepens when she decides to put him on television. Prentiss gets a visitor from his past: A childhood friend whose mild symptoms reveal a grave illness, forces Prentiss to reconcile who he was, who he is, and where his life with Zoey is heading. At lunch, Frank is still pressing Jackie to move in. With Mia and Grace on the brain, Jackie reminds Frank that she hasn't even met his kids. This observation leads to a revelation about Frank's past -- he had an affair, and consequently, his children no longer speak to him. Now Jackie has the ammo she needs to keep him from moving in. Frank asks to come over tonight and talk about it. Jackie agrees, then invites the entire crew from All Saints over for a poker night. Frank knows that Jackie is trying to put him off, but when he presses the matter, Jackie tells him that Kevin had an affair and she is reluctant to get involved with a cheater. Frank backs off. With everyone from All Saints distracted with poker, and Frank taking the dog for a walk, Jackie swallows five pills. The camera comes in to focus on Frank's face watching Jackie through the kitchen window. She has no idea that she was seen using.

Russell visits the sit. room and puts the military and national security leaders at ease, leading the president and Leo to reassess the man's political gravitas. Bartlet then drags the Israeli p.m. to the White House, where they debate the power of the U.S. to dictate which states should have nuclear capabilities.
- Jackie is discovered getting a phony prescription, while Eddie returns to All Saints, and Coop laments the end of his star-making media campaign.
- Jackie learns that Grace knows the truth about rehab and races to tell Kevin before he hears about it from their daughter. She asks Charlie to meet her at an AA meeting but he shows up drunk.

When Carrie checks on Jackie, she writes her a prescription for Oxy, unaware she's an addict. The most unlikely person asks Jackie out on a date.

Coop is angry that he isn't named Chief of the ER and wants to quit but Jackie tells him he'll get respect if he mans up. Jackie, overwhelmed by the day, vents to the only person who will understand - Charlie Cruz.
- Jackie is nervous about her date with Frank, so Zoey and Thor help her get ready and Eddie offers some friendly pointers. Prentiss misdiagnoses an injured dancer, but Akalitus and Coop catch his mistake before the patient leaves. Mike Cruz calls Jackie in a moment of need.

Realizing she dodged a bullet, Jackie quickly removes all drugs from her home and tries to find a hiding place for them at All Saints, finally settling on an old relic in the ladies rest room. Jackie complains to Antoinette about her upcoming dinner with Kevin and his new finance, but Antoinette convinces her to go. Back at work, Jackie connects with a homeless, alcoholic nun who seems to have given up on life. Frank's suspicions are raised once again when Grace announces matter of factly that her mother is the world's best liar. When Frank finds an old drug stash by accident, he calls Jackie to confront her but she brushes him off and heads inside a Williamsburg loft where she finds distraction and excitement in the arms of Gabe, the young drug user she met at the Square Dance. Prentiss misses the action of working in a war zone and is momentarily in his element when a multiple injury trauma is said to be coming into All Saints. Later, Zoey confronts Prentiss about his dissatisfaction and encourages him to do what he loves. Jackie is thrilled when Frank makes a surprise appearance at Kevin and Mia's dinner only to be confused by his caustic attitude. Mia and Kevin make a big announcement which causes Frank to reconsider confronting Jackie about the drugs he found. Jackie pops a surprising question to Frank.
- Jackie steals Dr. Roman's DEA number. Coop is recruited by a 'sperm scout'.
- After a morning of defiant daughters cutting their own hair, Jackie blows off some steam and calls the hipster drug dealer, Gabe, for a re-up. Prentiss and Zoey arrive to find an angry patient defacing the hospital because of Prentiss' bedside manner--and Zoey agrees it needs improvement. Zoey is volunteering later that night at a gay bar giving out free meningitis vaccinations but no one will go with her. Coop gets the disappointing news that his sperm count is too low to allow him to donate. And Carrie gets the lucky break of treating NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan which leads her to be part of an on air medical segment. Akalitus is on a winning streak too--her poker habit is really starting to pay off. Jackie cares for a patient with severe auto-immune issues and non-communicative doctors. So Jackie calls the physicians to the ER under dramatic false pretenses--and her patient can get the care she deserves. However, Jackie's day is interrupted when Frank comes by to tell her that Grace has been arrested for shoplifting. While meeting with Grace and Kevin at the precinct, Grace drops the bomb that Kevin's engaged. Jackie's blindsided. She goes to see her new sponsor who tells her news like this is hard to take sober--don't buy anything or make any big decisions. But Jackie can't help herself. She goes out and scores something she's wanted all day: a dog.
- As Kevin and Mia plan their wedding Jackie and Frank remain estranged. Though they're 'not talking,' Frank calls Jackie to warn her about a DEA investigation he heard is happening at All Saints involving interviews and urine tests. Jackie asserts she has nothing to worry about and ends the call quickly. It's clear the physician's number she stole is coming home to roost. Meanwhile, the death of the All Saints newsstand proprietor has the staff reflecting on the anonymity of life and Zoey and Thor plan a memorial. Jackie devises a painful spur of the moment solution to the impending DEA urine test involving Akalitus. The homeless nun returns in worse shape than ever and Jackie is happy to have a second chance to help her. Jackie brushes off the overly assuming Antoinette, claiming she wants to do recovery on her own. Antoinette turns to Eddie for help and more. Coop and Carrie find a way to get around their 'no sex in the hospital' rule. Jackie comes home to find a wedding invitation from Kevin and Mia. Inside she is shocked to find Frank and his two sons hanging out with Grace and Fi. Frank makes a pitch to get back together. We think Jackie's on board as she looks at the invitation to Kevin's wedding but we're not so sure.

Student nurse Zoey Barkow is worried when she finds the diplomat's ear in the toilet and it's suggested she may have put it there.
- Jackie and Zoey are working the night shift when a ten-year-old girl brings her lupus-stricken mother to the emergency room. A stroke patient needs Jackie's help in getting peace from his family, Dr. O'Hara takes Zoey out to dinner, and Mo-Mo plays games with his stalking admirer, Thor.
