- The rise and fall of sicilian most important mafia bosses after WWII: Luciano Liggio, Totò Riina and Bernardo Provenzano, all from Corleone. Their friendship and struggle against italian state.
- Gavino Ledda, teacher, writer, author of the autobiographical book "Padre padrone" (whence the Taviani brothers' film) made his directorial debut with this film which in many ways is a sequel to "Padre padrone". The protagonist (personified by Ledda himself) returns to the country where he finds hostile people (because he studied, because he went to the continent, because he wanted to be different from them). Gavino retires to his old farmhouse, where between meditations and dreams (he will dream of being Leonardo da Vinci) he rediscovers his true identity.
