- Benjamin is a child in war against the world, he has known violence and social care homes. One day his mother goes to prison, Benjamin learns he has a father, he will now go live with him in a city in the Parisian suburbs.
- François, director of a primary school, teaches third graders. It's a demanding position, leaving him little time for his private life. But he is committed. - June 1940. After the military rout undergone by the French Army, Victor Leizer, a young Jew from Belleville, on the road to join his parents, meets Bernard Mirande, a young man from Béarn, with whom he makes friends. Both decide to make the journey together but Victor, who falls into an ambush set by the Germans, is sent to a transit camp. There, he becomes the whipping boy of Commandant Braumann, who has discovered that he is Jewish. Thanks to Mirande, he manages to escape and finds refuge with Marie Chabaud, the owner of a farm who brings up her son alone. Marie is beautiful and love is soon born between the two young people. But Victor's adventures are far from over.
