- A railway engineer adopts a young girl orphaned by a train crash. Years later when she starts getting suitors, he grapples with whether or not to tell her the truth about her parentage.

Z tracks down the document and is nearly seduced in the process, but he resists her and returns to the comforts of home, his adoring mother, and a pet bulldog. In a chic restaurant one evening, she challenges him to a dancing duel, which he wins. After her confession of love, he goes home with a toothache. The contract is returned, the married couple plan to go away on a trip - all is ending as it should...

When the stolen property is found on him he is arrested for the crime and executed. 25 years later the innkeeper's daughter relates the tale to a traveler, who in turn later relates it at a dinner party. At that party is Frederic Taillefer, the missing friend and murderer.

Pancho reappears, ready to defy Xavier, but the two overhear a conversation and learn that Xavier's days are numbered. So he asks Pancho to elope with Maria.
- François Vidocq has deserted to go back to his wife and kids, so he becomes a thief. Unfortunately, he finds she had become Manon-la-blonde, mistress of a rich man named Ouvrard, and his children have disappeared. He offers his services to the chief of intelligence service and begins a fight against the Aristo, chief of the gang of the children of the sun. After a few years, he dismantles the gang, and finds both his sons. One has become a blackguard, the other a famous organist who is about to be knighted and will soon get married to his beloved.

Aurora goes to France and places a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with the thought the tombs may be his.
