Luckily, Devon arrives just in time so save Jessica. Liz is blatantly jealous because she thinks Todd and Renata have gotten a little too friendly with each other.
- In Hong Kong, Sean and Jimmy blackmail Max when they catch him buying illegal fireworks. After discovering Nigel's plan to kill and cook a duck, Denise and Alex attempt to free the bird. Ashley spies Tamira and Cassidy sneaking out to go dancing at a club.
- On the boat, Jimmy and Cassidy battle it out with a huge prank war and cause each other to dive into paranoia. This results in them joining forces and turning their pranks on the other students but Jimmy and Cassidy do not get the last laugh when revenge is exacted on them by their victims.
- Winston plans to attend a model plane expo and Todd makes fun of him along with his jock buddies. Enid opens Todd's eyes to his cruel treatment of Winston, and all is forgiven when Todd steps up to defend Winston in front of the jocks. Jessica talks to Liz into auditioning for a cosmetics commercial that is seeking spunky twin siblings. They win the role on the spot, but Jessica is dismayed when Liz refuses to do the commercial because the company supports animal testing. When Jessica can't find a replacement for Liz, they lose the job. But not all is lost when the gang gathers at the Moonbeach to watch a new commercial that features the twins advocating the cosmetics company's more humane competitor.
- Devon becomes the prime suspect in his parents' death when police re-open the investigation and discover new evidence. Reporters flock to Sweet Valley, hoping to learn more about the murder suspect, Devon Whitelaw. Principal Copper urges all students to decline interviews and respect Devon's right to privacy. Jessica seizes the opportunity to get into media spotlight by leaking information to reporters. Devon's therapist helps him remember key facts about the tragedy and tells his family Lawyer, Sam Wainwright, that he remembers someone else on the boat the night of the fire.
- Devon suddenly remembers that the other person on the yacht the night of the tragic fire was their attorney, Sam Wainwright. Sam panics when he hears Devon can identify him as the murderer. He kidnaps Liz and tells Devon to meet him on the dock alone, or he'll never see Liz alive again. The gang rallies to help rescue Liz and the police capture Sam. Case closed.
- The girls plan a ski weekend, and Liz defeats Jessica in the Woman's Downhill, thus defending her title for the second consecutive year. Jessica blames her loss in equipment failure and challenges Liz to a race down the dangerous Grizzly Trail to determine once and for all who the better skier is. Liz loses control on some ice and is knocked unconscious, spraining her leg in the fall. A storm rolls in and Ski Patrol fails to find the twins. To everyone's relief, Jessica appears in the distance supporting her injured sister. Meanwhile, Manny worries that Enid will forget about him while she's at Big Bear, so he convinces Todd to drive him there to keep an eye on her. Manny's heart sinks when he sees Enid with Chip, a ski lodge employee. He assumes the worst, but is relieved to find Enid showing Chip pictures of her and Manny. Liz is pleasantly surprised to see Todd, but can't muster her pride to ask him to stay, so her drives back to Sweet Valley.

- Paramedic and fireman Ray Patterson pulls a man out of a burning church, the body which was underneath a statue of a guardian angel. The man does not survive. In death, the man cannot remember who he is, and in life the body had no identification. Othniel dubs him "Mr. Smith". The fire chief recovers a lighter from the fire scene, Ray who knows to whom the lighter belongs: his father, taken by his delinquent sixteen year old son, Ritchie. Before Ray can approach Ritchie, Ritchie fires a gunshot through the closed door, on the other side being Ray. Ray dies from his gunshot wound. Although an accident, Ritchie and his mother, Lindsay, lie to the police about the nature of the gunshot. Mr. Smith is directed by Othniel to be Ray's guide in the afterlife, Mr. Smith's mission from God for his own possible redemption to a second life. Ray was a good man, but needs a second chance to change the course that Ritchie took into delinquency. Ray sees that turning point as being a fight in which Ritchie was involved four years earlier, one for which his parents covered up Ritchie's involvement and for which Ritchie never took any responsibility or thus learned the consequences of his actions. Ray is sent back to the day before the fight as Dr. Goode, Ritchie's substitute psychiatrist, Mr. Smith his nurse. As Dr. Goode, Ray learns that Ritchie had been feeling unloved by Ray for quite some time prior to the fight and had been overcoming his loneliness through illicit drug use. Ray also learns that although he was a good and brave man to the public, he was a non-existent husband and father, whereas Lindsay was Ritchie's enabler as a surrogate for Ray's non-presence. Ray not only has to try and stop Ritchie from getting into that fight, but also to change his and Lindsay's own attitudes about family and love. Meanwhile, Smith learns that his mission for God before his final judgment is extended, but he's not sure what he needs to accomplish before this judgment is made.
- Nancy Waldron is a stereotypical reclusive, crazy "cat lady". She blames the state of her life on her upbringing at the Pentwater Orphanage under the strict eye of Miss Hannah Steele, the Negro administrator of mostly Caucasian children. Nancy became attached to cats because besides Miss Hannah, there were no other constants in her life at the orphanage. To teach Nancy how to love her fellow man, Othniel sends her back thirty-seven years to the orphanage when she was a child. She is returned as Peggy McIntyre, the new matron of the orphanage under Miss Hannah's supervision. Nancy doesn't remember some of her childhood including the attentive friendship of Billy, the handyman's son. Although Nancy, as Peggy, learns the reasons behind Miss Hannah's action, she still tries to circumvent Miss Hannah's decision not to place Nancy in what Peggy sees as a fairy-tale adoption. But ultimately Nancy, as Peggy, coaxes out of Miss Hannah a woman who will change Nancy's life. Meanwhile, Smith thinks that Gabe, another one of the children at the orphanage, may have the answers as to his own identity.
- Rhonda Finkelstein has instilled in her daughter, Molly, a hatred for men because of her own failed marriage; Rhonda's husband, Ira, walked out on her when Molly was a child. Because of this hatred, Molly, now an adult, does not know how to love. Othniel will give Rhonda a second chance only if she can help Molly find a man who will love her and who will love her back. Othniel sends Rhonda back three years earlier as Sadie Arnstein, the manager of a video dating service. In her capacity as Sadie, Rhonda learns that Molly can only find true love if Rhonda herself first shows her what true love is.
- Married to Barry Lewis, Edwina Lewis was a philanthropist and faithful to her husband. But she always wondered if their friend, Dr. Hugh Janyk - a man she worked with in Doctors Without Borders - was the one she should have been with. Hugh had always felt the same, ever since the opportunity arose twenty years earlier at a dinner party, when Barry was not present, for the two to begin a romantic liaison. Although Mr. Jones cannot believe that Othniel would sanction adultery, Othniel does send Edwina back to that dinner party as the maid working the party to see if Hugh was indeed the one she should have been with. Othniel believes that Edwina needs to find her true love.
- Straight-laced Ron Taylor is feeling under-appreciated at work, despite his dedication and commitment. He hates his job in part because of the treatment he receives. But his hard work, and that of his wife Tammy, resulted in their daughter, Caitlin, being neglected as she was growing up. Seventeen year old Caitlin, who developed late as a child, is now pregnant, dating a loser named Meat and speaks with a stutter. Ron in part blames Tammy for Caitlin's poor upbringing, as Ron wanted Tammy to be a stay at home mom. But in death, Ron solely wishes that he could have given Caitlin a happier life. Judge Othniel gives Ron a second chance to at least try and carry out his wish. To when Caitlin was five and still not yet speaking, Othniel sends Ron back as Handy Randy, a grungy handyman. As Randy, Ron believes he can achieve his wish by convincing Tammy and his younger self to spend less resulting in Tammy not needing to work. As Randy spends time with Caitlin and sees Tammy at work, he comes to a different conclusion about what is best for Caitlin and the entire family.
- Moments before he accidentally dies, songwriter Tom Lasky comes home and as usual dismisses his crazy next door neighbor, Harry. Tom's mother Bess wants Tom to look after Harry as a brother outside of the institutional world. Tom instead calls the authorities to have Harry taken away to the psychiatric hospital, a move Harry begs him not to do as he knows he cannot survive in such places. Bess had always been a mother to "lost souls" which Tom resents. Tom also thinks his mother is unappreciated by those she helped. In part because of Bess' prayers for her son and the need to keep Harry out of the institutional system, Othniel decides to give Tom a second chance to save both his own life and that of Harry. Othniel sends Tom back as a homeless man who lives outside of Tom's apartment building just prior to Tom's telephone call to the authorities. As a homeless man, Tom is sent to the psychiatric institution with Harry. Tom is initially only concerned with saving his own life, but time, and getting to know Bess' motivations and Harry as a person may help Tom to change his attitude toward those around him.
- Mark and Mindy Posey are married psychotherapists who own a joint practice, but who could use some marriage counseling of their own. They are on the brink of divorce. Othniel can see that despite their outward problems, they still have true love for each other in their hearts. He sends them back to the start of their troubles - their honeymoon. They are Ralph and Alice Bliss, the managers of Swept Away, the hotel where they had their honeymoon. Although Mark and Mindy knew that each became angry with the other during the honeymoon, it's not until they look on as Ralph and Alice that they learn that each was upset about a secret kept by the other. However when the older Mark and Mindy realize they really do love each other, it may be too late for the younger Mark and Mindy. But it's not over until the Fat Lady sings.
- While docked at Peirpont Drift, a cop recognizes Beka and Seamus and notes that they are wanted for various crimes, but for some reason does not arrest them. Meanwhile, Dylan tries to mediate a disagreement between the Than and an ally of the Free Trade Alliance.
- The crew searches for people to organize the new Commonwealth. They search for Ortiz, who was able to organize a few systems then had to go into hiding. The crew must find/protect Ortiz.
- Upon nearing El Dorado Station, Beka receives a message from her 'uncle' Sid, who's in urgent trouble. She goes to meet him, with Trance in tow; . Beka finds Sid's message was sent 3 years prior, and now the situation's drastically different.
- Andromeda is boarded by a drone from the Consensus of Parts, a mythical mechanical society. While friendly at first, the drone tries to force the ship to join the Consensus.
- Renee has crystal that shows a map of where all the other Atavus hives are throughout the planet. She goes to Boone for help in destroying the hives before Howlyn can find them. Sandoval resurrects Zo'or to hunt Boone.
- Howlyn is completely obsessed with Renee. He and Sandoval bring Boone back to life to try to get to Renee. Howlyn transforms Boone's sister into a hybrid.
- When the mother ship hits dark matter, the ship dos not begin to heal itself. Zo'or is left in an unconscious state and Sandoval takes control. He decides it is time to liberate the Earth from the Taelons.
- A former Doors employee who has been turned into a hybrid tells Renee to stop a project just before he dies. The project seems to be an attempt to create Atavus hybrids faster.
- Renee breaks a serial killer who also happens to be a pathologist out of prison to help her determine a way to kill the Atavus. Street has difficulty agreeing with Renee's plan.
- Eighty-seven year old Charley Freeman was a gangster during the Great Depression, running a Harlem located speakeasy in which he dealt in moonshine. But he was also an aspiring jazz trumpeter in the club. His career came to a halt when he was arrested for his illegal activities, spending twenty years in prison. Since his release, he has spent his time primarily educating youth on the perils of the gangster life. Being shot by a street punk, Charley's dying word is "Rose". Not because of his atonement for his past gangster life, but because of Rose that Othniel sends Charley back to regain what was missing in his adult life, namely human love. During his speakeasy years, Charley, a Negro, was in love with Rose Hathaway, a young Caucasian woman, their love forbidden in a time when interracial romances were still taboo. Charley is sent back to his speakeasy days as Jack, a friend of the Freeman family and a moonshine runner. Smith learns that part of the issue about Charley's love for Rose was secrets she had kept from Charley about her family and the role she may or may not have played in his arrest. Charley needs to learn the truth behind Rose's love or lack of for Charley.
- In many respects, Smith sees the Storeys - parents David and Marcy, and children Ryan and Rachel - as the perfect example of a truly loving family. Ryan had thought about going to seminary school, but decided instead to go to medical school in an effort to save his father, himself a general practitioner. Dr. Storey underwent a simple heart valve replacement surgery, but complications from several surgeries later resulted in him suffering permanent brain damage. Ryan feels responsible as he both convinced his father to have the surgery, and now wishes that his father had died instead. Ryan wishes that he could go back and convince his father not to have the surgery, which would result in what Ryan considers two quality years instead of the eleven years David has lived with the mental faculties of a child. Ryan does get his wish as Othniel sends him back as Dr. Thomas, the heart surgeon on his father's case. Smith makes Ryan realize that it isn't only letting his father make his own decision on his fate, but also for Dr. Thomas, with Ryan's thoughts and feelings, to do what is truly in his heart.
