- Convict Paul Dunbar takes a hostage and demands to talk to anchorman Jordan Sanders. Before the interview can take place, Sanders is assassinated and Dunbar killed. Mark uses Dunbar's last words to investigate who might have killed them.
- The mayor's wife leaves an extravaganza with a fake migraine, engineering a scheme to kill her husband and frame a crackpot. The next day Mark questions her story after he treats a bum who was injured in a hit-and-run near the incident.

- Dr. Sloan witnesses the suspicious death of a financial con man. However, the body disappears, with only his personal diary remaining. Mark must prove that he is dead, while his wife and associates claim that he is just away on business.
- Neglected by her husband, Stacy goes out with wealthy bachelor Paul. The evening ends in a fatal car accident from which Stacy escapes unnoticed. She is the only one who can save Paul from manslaughter charges, but at risk of her own marriage.

- Duke and Rita visit a remote mountain cabin for a romantic getaway. During a fierce snowstorm, a young boy with pneumonia shows up at their door. Duke won't call for help because he is wanted for robbery, but Rita uses a ham radio to ask for medical help.
- Nora is hired as a secretary under the condition that she disguise herself to be old and unattractive, so as not to distract her boss. When her boss has need to drop in to Nora's home, he is taken with the young lady he finds there, who claims to be Nora's sister.
- A new young director is imposed upon an aging scream queen near the end of her current movie. They argue conspicuously and vehemently about artistic differences. After the filming of the climactic death scene, the actress is discovered to be actually dead, and the director is presumed to be the guilty party.
- Lex and his girlfriend, Victoria, are attacked by an invisible entity. Suspicion falls upon the Palmer family, who are caretakers at Lex's mansion. Chloe believes that daughter Anna Palmer is responsible because of her jealousy of Victoria.

- Ubuntu feels untalented until he is recruited for the football team. His success as left tackle brings out Helen's long-repressed football hysteria. Gerald and Ubuntu clash with the football culture, especially when the boosters want to kill a pig that represents the opposing team. Ubuntu stays on the team only when they agree not to kill the pig. Bliss schemes for a college scholarship to avoid being trapped going to Greenville Community College, but finds the only way she might qualify for a scholarship is to take a college class at GCC. She tries it but then wigs out in the first class and pulls the fire alarm to escape. Her dream comes true when she is banned from GCC for life.
